Recent Haul and my First Essie Mani

Hello gentle readers. How is life treating all of you? All is well, here. It is cold, windy and snowed a little, earlier. But it didn't stick around. Thank God! I can't bear another snow like that last one. If it happens again, I will have to go run screaming into the night.

So, I got out yesterday, did a little girlie shopping. Bought some new foundation, some new body lotion and body butter. The butter was supposed to be mainly for my feet, but it softens me so nicely all over, my feeties are just going to have to share. I picked up a cuticle cream and of course... Polish. :D

I found a pretty Nicole in Target called Love Your Life. Pink clear jelly filled with small pink glitter and pink hearts. I thought it might be fun for Valentine's Day manis. After Target, I ran into Sally's to use my 15% voucher before it expired and got a new foot file (my feet eat files!) some cotton pads and a few more polishes. I wanted a new black and decided to try Finger Paints Black Expressionism. And while I was drifting along, kind of looking for a foot file, I spied with my little eye on the clearance shelf China Glaze Ick-A-Body. It had a big, red clearance sticker on it and I grabbed it faster than a striking cobra. $1.99. Boy do I ever love a bargain. :D

Then it was off to Ross. I just wanted to see if there were any interesting polishes in the bins. I scored two Color Club collections. One was a pack of seven polishes that had no names, no numbers so I have no clue what their names are. But they look promising. I also found the Covered in Diamonds half of the Untamed Luxury collection. Woo hoo! Eight clams each. I need to remember to drop in there more often and haunt the polish bins.

Have I mentioned I love getting a bargain?

Haul pic:

Today's mani is my first ever Essie manicure. I recently bought some Essie polishes from Amazon. Uh... It is waaay too easy to buy polish from there. A few clicks and I have polish on the way. Dangerous! lol I have learned that you need to be really careful to check shipping charges and add everything carefully so that you don't pay too much. So far, all of the polishes I have bought (I will be showing the little hauls in upcoming posts) have come out, with shipping less or the same as I would pay in a store. It is the only way I can get a lot of my polishes, because they are hard, if not impossible to find in my POS podunk town.

So, anyhoozle, I did my nails with Essie Demure Vixen, today. Demure Vixen is part of Essie's 2010 Summer Collection. I had been lemming it since I saw the first swatch post in someone's blog, last year. Boy is this polish pretty. Soft, light mauve with a hint of brown. But not enough brown to make me hate it, or give me lobster claws. It has a beautiful magenta hidden shimmer that fires in sunlight. The formula was lovely, easy to work with. I am not madly in love with the brush. It is a bit small and skinny. I prefer a larger brush. But the brush isn't terrible and it certainly wouldn't scare me off from Essie. I applied two coats and topped it with Seche Vite.

The sun came out just long enough for me to fire off a few shots and get that oh-so-lovely shimmer. Then it went back into hiding. Pics are clickable, if you are so inclined.

My nails are shorter. They were looking and feeling a bit beat up. My nails are delicate and weak and even with gentle care and patches, after a while, they just need to be filed down and given a chance to grow back out a little stronger. Until they start cracking, chipping and get patched and then have to be filed down, again. lol

Well, this was a looooong post, wasn't it? If you read all this babble, I salute you. lol Thank you so much for popping in. If you are in the path of all that bad Winter weather hitting so much of the country, stay warm and safe. Have a great evening and may your polish never bubble.

Redecoration Day

Hello gentle readers.

Today, I was trying to decide whether or not I wanted to change my polish when it hit me, don't change it, stamp it. So, I grabbed Konad plate m65 and China Glaze 2030 and went to it. I am pretty happy with how this polish looks with Zoya Crystal. My stamping technique is hardly flawless, but it is getting better. I am not too worried about small flaws, after all your average person isn't going to be examining my nails in macro mode. :D I topped this design with Seche Vite.

 In sunshine.

In shade.

So, there you go. Redecorated nails. A fresh take on an old manicure. :D

I got a new toy, yesterday. Husband surprised me with a new smart phone. He knew what I like and was looking at and he snuck into the Verizon store and bought me an LG Vortex. He also bought and put on a red jelly silicone skin. He said that he chose that one for me because it looked like my nail polish. Awww! He thought I would like it and he was right. :D It runs on the Android 3G wireless network and it is a joy and so much fun. I thought it was going to take me forever to get the hang of using it. I am not a techie type, but it was really easy to get to know. Once you get the rhythm of things, it is intuitive and fast to pick up. I am now a smart phone convert. And way too fond of Facebook in the palm of my hand. :D

Thank you so much for popping in. Have a great weekend and may your polish never bubble.

Manicure of the Moment

Hello gentle readers. Happy hump day. The week is nearly at an end, the weekend is almost here. I am looking forward to it. I finally feel well enough to get out and about, do some shopping, maybe haul a little polish... Some makeup... Yepper. I need a little girlie retail therapy. Especially after the day I had yesterday. :P

Okay, so today, I have a gorgeous polish to show you. Zoya Crystal. Lord have mercy, this polish is stunning. A dark grey jelly base packed with blue shimmer and gold mini flakies. Zowie! Indoors and in shade, this polish looks almost greyed, icy. Calm.... Get it out in the sun and Pow! Sparkle, shimmer. The blue deepens and springs to life. My nails look like jewelry.

I applied three coats and topped it with Seche. Application was Zoya-licious. The formula is lovely, the viscosity perfect, it just flows into place, as if it is alive and knows where to go. I had little cleanup. Very little. I am a little curious to see what removal will be like. Most shimmery, flakie polishes are a bear to remove. Not that I am thinking about cleaning this gorgeous stuff off, at the moment.

I have a pile of pictures. Would you like to see?

 In sunshine.

And shade. I wish my camera could give this polish it's due. As pretty as it is in photos, it is ten times more so, in person. <3

What do you think of Crystal? Do you own this polish? Love it? It has vaulted right to the top of my favourite blue polishes list. This really is a very special polish and I am so happy that I chose it and I am grateful to Zoya for their recent Facebook promo that made it possible for me to try their wonderful polish.

Thank you so much for popping in. Have a wonderful evening and may your polish never bubble.

Nail Mail!

Hello gentle readers. How's life treating all of you?

Today I received two packages of polish. A big one and a little one.

My big one? The polishes I won in Nailstah's recent giveaway! If you haven't read her blog, click on her name and check out her blog. She does great reviews of a wide variety of polishes and has really pretty nails.  :D

 Freshly opened box.

She included a note all folded up and coloured to look like a strawberry. How adorable was that? I hated to unfold it.

 Everything all neatly, snugly packed.

First glimpse of the loot within! :D

An embarrassment of riches! Colour Club, OPI, China Glaze, Nubar (my first, ever) Sally Hansen, Maybelline, Dare to Wear (with holo!) Essie, a HIP shadow and a minty fresh lip balm and more. I am going to have so much fun with all of these polishes. :D
 All grouped together.

And, in a smaller bubble mailer, the China Glaze polishes I ordered for stamping polishes. China Glaze 2030 and Hi-Tech. I hope that they stamp as nicely as Millennium does.

I don't often photograph my little hauls or polishes I order. Should I do that, or is it too, "Lookie what I got!" As if I am bragging or being vain?

Thank you so much for popping in. Have a great night, stay warm out there, you in cold country and may your polish never bubble.

Konad Fun

Hello gentle readers.

Today I did Konad with plate m64 with Sinful Snow Me White. I topped it off with Seche. This is really subtle, due to the polish I used.

Konad is so much fun. And an easy way to change up a manicure, jazz it up and give it a whole new look. :D

Sorry about the crappy picture. My poor little camera is having more difficulty with macro shots.

Jen, I don't know what to tell you about your issues with Zoya. Maybe trying a different base and topcoat will work? I hope that you figure it out, because Zoya really is the lovely. :D

Thank you for popping in. Have a lovely evening, everyone and may your polish never bubble.

So Worth the Wait!

Hello gentle readers. How is everything? All is well, here. I am finally well on the mend from that frakking 'flu and feeling a lot better. I hope to be back to 100% shortly. :D

It is a beautiful, sunny day. 61 degrees. Perfect for polishing. Luckily I received a little packet from Zoya, today. Two of my three free polishes from their Facebook Like promotion. I chose Erika, Crystal and Kelly. Kelly is on backorder and I will receive it when it is available. Which is fine.

I always wondered what all the hype about Zoya polish was all about. I mean... Polish is polish. There is nice polish and there is crap. Zoya is gorgeous polish. Now I get the hype. I get the raves and I want more of this brand.

Today I decided to apply and show you Zoya Erika. I originally chose this polish because it is my namesake. (Yes, even the spelling is the same. :D) On the website, it looked like a nice, simple pink with a little goldie shimmer. In person, this is a beautiful rich, girlie pink packed with dancing, complex gold shimmer. It is so very pretty.

The formula is flawless. Smooth, silky and the perfect viscosity. It flows off the brush onto the nail so easily, it practically applies it's self. I had so little cleanup I was stunned. lol Fast drying, I didn't have to sit and wait and wait for it to dry enough for me to take pictures. I topped this with Seche. I have read that some gals had trouble with Zoya and Seche not playing well together. I didn't have any trouble, at all. Same with my basecoat. I use China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat and it works just fine with Zoya.

This colour is a little on the sheer side. I applied two coats. I probably should have done a third to get it perfectly opaque, especially with my nasty ridges. But I really wanted to see how it looked and lasts with two. Next time I wear it, I will definitely do three. But I am pretty happy with the finish with two, as well.

Wold you like to see pictures? I have lots. :D

These are all clickable, if you want to check out the shimmery fun this polish offers. I'm sorry that they all came out at an angle. I normally get some straight on, but I blew it, today. :P

I am so impressed with Zoya and I won't hesitate to buy more in the future. It was great of Zoya to do this promo, it got a lot of us who were on the fence to try them and I am sure that many first timers, like myself will go back for more.

So, have you received your Free Three? Are you a first timer who is now as thrilled with this brand as I am?

Thank you so much for popping in. Have a lovely evening and may your polish never bubble.

Two Fails and a Win

Fail number one:

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle in Loyal Lavender.

Yukkkity, yukkity, yukkity, yuk. This is one nasty polish. On a stick. Tacky, cheap looking purple lavender with a pretty hiden shimmer in the bottle that translates to a tacky, not so lovely opalescence in the sun. The formula is full of fail. Globby and thin, like trying to brush snot all over the nails. It applies unevenly and dries looking chalky and... just blech. The brush is wide, which I like but it is over contoured and not well, ruining the point of the wide brush. This polish is ugly and gross. It actually looked better in the photo than in person. I don't know how...

Fail number two:

The next polish of fail is Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle in Gentle Blossom. Another one that had promise in the bottle. Soft, clear minty green packed with silver shimmer. Should have been a slam dunk for a favourite. No such luck. The colour didn't translate to the nail. The formula was gritty, clotted and dragged and streaked horribly. Three coats had no hope of even trying to be beautiful. It also dried dull and chalky looking. Horrid, horrid polish. The brush was so badly trimmed that I had to clean the polish off of it and trim it, myself just so I could swatch this loser.

Both of these polishes are currently sitting on top of my dresser with their receipt, awaiting return from whence they were purchased. I'll use the money to get polishes I will actually like.

I am really disappointed in Sally Hansen. So many of their polishes are so nice. But this line is not.

In happier news, today's manicure is Color Club Who Are You Wearing? from their Rebel Debutante collection. This is a shiny, interesting ivory beige that isn't a boring, one tone granny beige. This polish goes from a porcelain ivory in direct sun to a soft, greyed lavender in the shade. The texture is smooth and almost a crelly. I applied two coats and am pretty happy with the coverage. I could have slapped on a third, to get it super opaque. I topped it with Seche and am happy with this soft, light, fresh and gentle colour.

So, gentle readers, there you have it. Two awful polishes that I am sitting here wishing I had passed up and one I am really happy that I bought.

Thank you so much for popping in. Have a wonderful evening and may your polish never bubble.

Manicure of the Moment

Hello gentle readers. How was your weekend? Mine wasn't too great. But I am finally beginning to feel a little better. The 'flu sucks, let me tell you. Bleargh!

After wearing my last manicure for a week, I finally felt up to changing my polish. I will say, that for a week old manicure, Revlon Stormy held up quite beautifully. It was still in nice condition when I cleaned it off my nails, today.

I have Hard Candy Sky for you, today. A soft pastel blue creme with a hidden shimmer and, when in direct sun a surprising and beautiful sapphire blue flash. I tried and tried to capture the flash with my camera but it couldn't catch it. Sad, because it is special and I really wanted to show it.

This polish's formula is like a lot of pastel cremes. Somewhat streaky, but not too bad. I applied two coats and it is pretty opaque. I considered a third coat, but I was getting tired and starting to cough, again so I decided to wrap it up. I topped it with Seche. Topcoat finished it off and smoothed it very nicely.

I like this polish just fine and I will definitely wear it, again. Next time, I'll try three coats. :)

All photos were taken in direct sun and are clickable, if you so desire.

Okay, I need to take off. I have some things to do and I am wanting my lunch. Thank you so much for popping in. Have a great afternoon and may your polish never bubble.

And the Winner is...

The Exquisite Christine!

Congratulations, Christine. Enjoy!

Now back to my regularly scheduled dying of the 'flu. lol

An Award!

The lovely Chris at Lacquer Ware for Tips and Toes bestowed on me this award. Thank you so much, Chris. It is really sweet of you.

I'm stylish. :D

I need to share seven random things about myself. I have to think? But... But... I have the 'flu! I am all ill and whiny and my brain hurts. lol

1. I love the ocean. When I was a teenager, we went on a family road trip and stopped on Cape Mendocino for a while. It was so beautiful. Wild, raw, cold, a slashing wind coming in off the water. I could feel and taste the salt spray, the sound of the crashing waves on rocks was like music. I could smell that incredible smell that is only in the ocean and I breathed it in as if I had never drawn breath, before. I sat down on that small strip of beach and literally did not want to ever leave that spot.

2. I like to iron. Sick, I know...

3. I am deathly afraid of heights. Rooftops? Forget it. If I am in a tall building, I can't go near any windows. Standing at the top of a flight of stairs can panic me, sometimes. High places on TV and in movies make me all... Gah!

4. I can't sleep with my closet door open. I don't know why. It just creeps me out.

5. Rude behaviour is my biggest pet peeve. When did it become so fashionable for people to lack basic, common courtesy, respect and civility?

6. I am a died in the wool coffee addict.

7. I have always harbored a secret wish to be a fighter pilot. Not so that I could shoot down other planes, but so that I could learn to fly one of those magnificent machines.

I am supposed to share this with fifteen others. But, remember, I am ill and whiny and so I am going to defy this rule. If you read this and you haven't received a direct tag for this award, consider yourself tagged. Snag the image, share seven things about yourself and pass it on. I think that you are all fabulous and stylish and I enjoy this blog community, reading your blogs and getting to know you a little. :D

Today is the last day to get in on my giveaway drawing for a $60.00 gift certificate to any of over 200 CSN Stores sites. You can enter by clicking the CSN Stores logo at the top of my right hand column.

Okay, I have done enough, for right now. I am about to conk out, this 'flu is kicking my ass.Have a good evening and stay healthy!

Incubus of Viral Plague

Hello gentle readers. I seem to have contracted a nasty virus when I was last in my local Urgent Care. I am ill. Ill and whiny and coughing up my lungs.

I shall return when I feel a little less like death on a stick.

Stay healthy, out there.

Manicure of the Moment

Hello gentle readers. Just a quickie, today. I am busy, but I wanted to pop in and show you Revlon Top Speed Stormy. A silky grey creme that applied like buttah. Two coats gave me a lovely, smooth, opaque finish. I think, if you are good at applying precise, thick coats, you could get away with one. I topped this with Seche.

 In direct sun.

A sunshine and shade comparison in one photo. (As if I planned it that way... :P)

I like this colour. I am becoming really fond of taupes and greys. Colours I never thought I would like.

Okay, I am going to take a little time and see what you are up to here in Polish Addict Land.

Thank you for popping in. Have a terrific day and may your polish never bubble.

I will be back very soon with new nail piccies and to read your terrific blogs. I am just busy and have been preoccupied with something, at present. I miss posting here and reading everyone. *sigh*

Okay, I must dash.

Manicure of the Moment

Hello gentle readers. I hope that you are all having a great week.

I am sorry I have not been around much, lately. I was recently diagnosed with a right nasty case of shingles and between the pain and the meds that turn me into a brain dead looped out goofball, polishing my nails and photographs of them aren't on the very top of my priority list at present. I hope that the meds work and this passes soon. Let me tell ya, I wouldn't wish shingles on my worst enemy. And there is a lot I would wish on such persons. lol

Anyhoozle, on to my present manicure. Today I have my first Hard Candy polish (besides their much loved by me matte topcoat), Beetle. Boy is this pretty. A dark grey jelly packed to the rafters with colour shifting duochrome miniflakies. This polish shifts from purple to green to gold to grey, depending on the light and angle. This polish makes me think of clusters of raw amethysts or the inside of a thunder egg.  I have read that this is a close sister to Orly Space Cadet. I don't own Space Cadet so I couldn't say for certain.

Here are pictures. All were taken in diffused sun outdoors. It is, of course, partly cloudy today. *sigh* Where is the sun when I need it? lol Buckle up, kiddies. Lots of pictures ahead. :D

I don't particularly like this last photo, but it shows the gold shift very nicely, so I included it. :P I love how the bottle looks like a jewel in the light. :D

This polish applied very nicely. It wanted to flood my cuticles and I had to keep a tight reign on it, but it was easy, otherwise. I only had to apply two coats to get an opaque finish. Dry time is pretty good. I topped this polish with Seche Vite. You can find Hard Candy polishes at WalMart for five dollars a bottle. I love that they shrink wrap seal the bottles. You know that you are getting a clean, fresh bottle that some rude, nasty idiot hasn't opened, swatched on their fingers, toes (yuk!!!!!) or a shelf or display. Why the hell do people do that? Gross! Anyway, I like this polish and am looking forward to trying other shades in this line.

Okay, my muscle relaxer is kicking in... Wooooeeeeoooo... I'z getting loopy, again, so I am going to run along. Thank you so much for popping in. Take care and may your polish never bubble.
