Manicure of the Moment

Hello gentle readers. Happy beginning of the holiday weekend! Yay! Oh, and be prepared for a long post. I really got going on this one. *blush*

To kick off Independence Day holiday weekend, I chose something red, something very glittery and very, very special. A franken created and gifted to me by the lovely Dragon Rhia. (I miss her here on the blogs. But I also understand that life takes us where it needs to. :)) She got in touch recently and told me that she had created some jelly holos and asked me if I would like one and if I would like to model and feature it on my blog. Uh... Hell yeah! :D She gave me a choice of colours and I chose Strawberry Jam Holo. A strawberry red jelly packed with diffused holographic glitter. Tho this is a true jelly, very translucent, it is so packed with glitter that it is fully opaque in two coats. I topped this manicure with a coat of Poshe` then a coat of Seche Vite.

I took a lot of photographs of this polish and none of them, even the little video I shot can do it full justice. As pretty as it is in pictures, it is a thousand times more gorgeous in person. I mean, red holo? All that sparkling, dancing scintillation? It completely blew my poor, old, little camera's brains right out. lol All of the photographs are clickable. Please do click, to get the best from my photographic attempts.

First shot in the shade. This shows the depth and the squishy goodness that even all of that delicious glitter can't hide.

Next, with flash. Focused and blurred to show the delicious holo, the many colours.

Now let's all go out in the sun, shall we? :D

Mmmm... Holo... *Gah!*

None of these photographs can capture the depth, the clarity, the dancing scintillation of this truly gorgeous franken. *sigh*

Here is my little video. It gives a good idea of what this polish can do out in the sun. Unfortunately, my camera can't do really close up in video mode. So there is no way to get focus and catch everything as it should be. I tried... I shot four videos. This one was the best of the bunch.

Strawberry Jam Holo by Dragon Rhia Creations is a beautiful, glowing, highly pigmented true strawberry red jelly packed with holographic glitter. I had a little bit of a learning curve with this polish. Because the holo glitter is heavy, the jelly can't keep it suspended. I needed to learn how to keep rotating, rolling and moving this polish to keep that glitter up where it belongs. I let it sit overnight, turning and rotating it every now and then and while I was applying it I would cap it and turn and roll it between coats and before I painted each hand. It was a little bit of work, but well worth the effort.

This polish applied really nicely. It was easy to control and sat right down where I placed it. No running. No pooling. No bratty fits of any kind. For a polish with so much glitter goodness, it was amazingly smooth, I had little trouble with glop or clumping of any kind. I didn't have a huge amount of cleanup. Mostly just a little fussbudget refining on the first coat. I had almost no cleanup on the second coat. It just kind of slid right in on top of the first, moulded perfectly to that base and stayed where it belonged. I love that! :D

Dry time was surprisingly fast. This polish dries matte and is a bit gritty. Not sandpaper grit rough but there is a definite texture. To be expected from such a dense glitter. It is a bit of a top coat muncher. I applied a coat of Poshe` to seal it all up, then hit it with Seche Vite and now, an hour or so later it could use another coat of Seche Vite as there is still a little texture on the surface. I'll probably feed it one more coat after my shower. Again, I don't mind this. The beauty of this polish makes little things like extra top coat a small price to pay. :D

I will post a picture of this polish and the recipe on my Franken Fun page sometime this weekend. I just don't have time to do it, today. The beauty of this is that the materials are pretty easy to get your hot little hands on so if you love this as much as I do, you should be able to find everything you need to mix yourself up a batch of this beauty.

So, gentle readers, I would love to know what you think of this polish. Please share.

Okay, I need to run. I still have to get in the shower and get my war paint on and do something with my stupid hair. I have places to go, shopping to do. Ross to haunt in hopes of finding something special.

Have yourself a terrific Friday. Thank you so much for popping in, stay cool, kids and may your polish never bubble.

  13. Haha! I LOVE this on you. It was like I made it for you. AWESOME!!! I'm so glad you got this one. I always found the same things you did when I would try to photograph my franken holos - 1. they never, and I mean never look as good on video/photo as they do irl and 2. they eat topcoat like a mofo (its the glitter dust that does it). This is smashing on you. Thank you for posting on it. Have a GREAT weekend!

  14. Chris makes the best holo glitter frankens! I have one of them, and wore it for a full week. I love that even though you need tons of top coat, each additional coat makes the mani look so much better!
