Hello gentle readers.
I recently picked up OPI Matte Top Coat. I don't know why, really. I didn't need another bottle of matte top coat but hey, it's OPI and I wanted it. I applied OPI Matte Top Coat over two coats of OPI Thanks a Windmillion. I like the combo. I think that Thanks a Windmillion looks great matte.
OPI Matte top coat is thick and a bit opaque. It applies pretty easily but you need to be sure to have plenty of the top coat on your brush as you apply it because this matte top coat sets and goes flat fast! It is setting and changing on one side of your nail while you are still finishing applying to the other. There really isn't much time to go back and work over missed spots or smooth things down. This top coat does self level to a certain extent but don't depend on it. Be fast and be smooth with this and it will reward you. Be careless and slow and it will bite you.
As OPI Matte Top Coat dries it has a soft, kind of puffy look to it. As it continues to dry and cure, it hardens and flattens down to the nail and looses that puffy quality. The flat matte finish is very nice but it doesn't remain pristine for longer than a couple of days. By the end of the second day, my tips were pretty shiny and there were shiny scratch marks on some of my nails. I don't usually wear matte manicures longer than a day or two anyway so shorter wear time isn't a necessarily a bad thing, as far as I am concerned.
All in all, I like OPI Matte Top Coat. If I were to run out of it and need more, I would definitely purchase it again. Since I own this and a nearly full bottle of Orly Matte Top, as well I think I am pretty well set for matte top coat for the foreseeable future. If you are on the hunt for a good matte topper I would recommend giving this one a whirl.
Do you own OPI Matte Top Coat? What do you think of it? Love it? Hate it? Want it? It should be available where you buy OPI, at salons, Ulta and salons that stock OPI.
Thank you so much for coming by and reading and have a great day!
