When Nail Art Attacks

Hello gentle readers.

I was playing around, doing my nails, doing some nail art. I had my China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy mani on and I had some ideas. I grabbed a roll of blue painter's tape and my pinking shears and cut French guides. I sealed them securely down and painted on two coats of China Glaze Flying Dragon to form zig zag tips. After that was done, I grabbed my dotting tools, China Glaze Snow and Four Leaf Clover and did a design. A design that started out okay but soon turned, thanks to my total inability to self edit, into a total mess.

I looked at my nails in dismay and was about to to clean them off when I had a crazy thought. I remembered the watercolour nail art I have seen and decided that I would see if I could turn my funky French and dots mess into a watercolour with a brush and acetone. Good thing, the polish slid around nicely, thanks to the Seche Vite on my nails. but it wasn't a watercolour. It was just a mess. But, kind of an interesting mess, in a strange, neon, orange, purple and green, underworldly, horror movie-ish way.

Now I need to clean it off. Then my eyes lighted on a wedge makeup sponge I keep in my lightbox to prop things up when I am taking photographs. Hmmm... Sponging. I could do some sponging over the underworldly mess. So I tore smallish pieces off of the wedge and dumped out small puddles of the polish colours I was working with and started sponging. When I finished, it looked interesting, reminding me vaguely of a Monet painting in a strange, roundabout kind of way. What does every painting need? A frame. Another hunk of sponge and some gold polish and sponge some gold on my tips to evoke a painting's frame.

Ugh. What. A. Mess. I had this mass of matte sponged stuff on my nails and the mess all over the skin on my fingers around my nails was insane. I think that cleanup took me almost as long as the whole nail art process did! But it was finally done. Okay. Looks a little better. And I was ready to apply top coat. And the matte, dull, ugly mass on my nails suddenly smoothed out, blended together, came to life. The sparkle in China Glaze Flying Dragon began to flash and the gold on my tips was shining and it wasn't so awful.

It wasn't nice. It had some nice moments. I'm sorry that I don't have photos of the attack as it occurred, I was too into the process to remember to pick up my camera. But I do have pics of the aftermath.

Truth. It hurts. But confession is cleansing and healing. I feel better, now.

And who knows. I may try sponging again, one day.

Have you been attacked by your nail art, lately? Do you share it when it happens?

Thank you for dropping in and reading and have a great day.

  1. I actually think the sponging is really nice, especially the colours used worked well together. Not so keen on the gold I have to say but otherwise it's pretty!! :)

  2. I think it looks great. Intentional and Impressionistic. Call yourself Icy Monet for the rest of the day. :D

  3. You are SO creative! I know you aren't happy with it, but I think it does look Monet-ish and very pretty! :)

  4. Hee hee! I love that! Icy Monet, it is. :D Thank you.

  5. Thank you. I agree with you about the gold. If I could go back and re do it, I would have left it off. There it is, again. My inability to stop myself from going just a little too far. LOL

  6. I still think it looks great! The colors you used here are really different and super cool together :)

  7. This does look very unique and fun! I really like how it turned out!

  8. Woot! Woot! That is astoundingly beautiful, Erika. Day-ummmmm! Yeah, I'd go with the Icy Monet motif, too.

  9. You are very kind. Thank you. :D I called myself Icy Monet all day. Heh heh!

  10. Thank you. I like the colour combo. Probably should have left off the gold, tho. I just can't help myself. LOL

I love to know what you're thinking. I dig honest discourse and lively discussion, even a good debate. I do not dig hate speech or personal attacks either against myself or my gentle readers.
