OPI First Date At the Golden Gate

Hello gentle readers.

One of my best memories from my childhood is my first trip across the Golden Gate Bridge. I was about eight, we were on a family road trip and, in spite of the fact that I was rapidly coming down with the flu (what was it with me and getting sick on road trips when I was a kid?) I was insanely excited for my first crossing. The bridge didn't disappoint. Despite feeling like death warmed over, I was thrilled, enchanted, temporarily revitalized.

OPI First Date At the Golden Gate Evokes my first date with that iconic span. This is the perfect Autumnal red, a rich, warm, red-orange jelly that evokes the classic rusty red paint that is forever being applied to every square inch of the Golden Gate bridge, day in and day out, in a never ending battle against the elements.

This swatch is three coats and Seche Vite.

These photos came out a bit more red on my nails, the bottle colour is more colour accurate.

OPI First Date At the Golden Gate has a gorgeous formula. Smooth as satin, it applies like a great jelly should, it flows off of the brush, settles down where it is placed, mounds ever so slightly then just whispers up the nail like silk. There is no running, pooling, flooding my cuticles or bubbling. The first coat was a tad streaky but by the third coat, it was perfectly smooth and fully opaque. I needed three coats thanks to my ridges. If you have really smooth nails, you could probably get by with two. Dry time isn't bad. This stuff is very shiny on it's own, I think that top coat makes it even better.

So, what do you think about OPI First Date At the Golden Gate? Like it? Are you as in to red as I am? I don't know what my problem is. I see a great red, even tho I need another red polish like I need another hole in my head, I can't help myself. I have to have it.

I'd love to get back to San Francisco, one day. I was there that once. I'd love to experience it as an adult. Maybe one day.

Thank you so much fo coming by and reading and have a lovely day.

  6. I love red polish. I wore it for years before I started getting comfortable with dark polishes. I am drawn to red when I see them in the store.

  7. it is really close the color they use for paint on the Golden Gate bridge - only a little more appealing for nails!

  12. I am such a major sucker for red. I can't lay off of a great red polish. I have enough red polish for a lifetime and more and I keep buying more. And will continue. LOL

Why yes, I did. Thanks for noticing. :D I am still learning how to get the best out of it (looong learning curve!) but I am so happy with the improved photo quality. And it's fun, too. :)

I still have a few things to post that were photographed with Old Faithful, some skincare items but most of my polish, from here on out will be with my new camera. :)

  17. It's the Canon Powershot Elph 130 IS. 16 MP. It's a terrific little camera. My pics are a little inconsistent, yet. This last batch aren't as good. *sigh* I'll get the hang of it. :D
