OPI Alcatraz Rocks: Swatch and Review

Hello gentle readers.

Every now and again I buy a polish that just steals my heart and makes me love it. One such polish is OPI Alcatraz Rocks from their San Francisco Collection for Fall 2013. This is one of the Liquid Sand polishes for this collection and it is a beauty.

OPI Alcatraz Rocks is a greyed purple jelly base with the OPI Liquid Sand particles and beautiful multicoloured sparkle shimmer pieces. Wet, it is decidedly purple and quite sparkly, dry it is more muted and greyed down and the sparkle is more subtle, tho still visible. This polish is amazing worn as intended or with top coat.

I don't normally wear polishes before I swatch them here. I wore this one on two separate occasions before swatching it and I have worn it, since. I just keep reaching for it. It's that fantastic.

This swatch is two coats of OPI Alcatraz Rocks over base coat and left to dry.

And here is OPI Alcatraz Rocks with two coats of Seche Vite on top. I wish I could have gotten photos out in the sun but there wasn't any that day.

The formula on this polish is as fabulous as it is beautiful. It applies easily, is a breeze to control, it doesn't pool, run, flood my cuticles, drag or pull or bubble. I did a little cleanup just to refine and perfect my edges and curves because I always do but I could have probably skipped the cleanup if I weren't doing macro photography. Dry time takes a little time. The surface dries fairly quickly but these Liquid Sand polishes need a chunk of time to dry thoroughly. Until they do, they are vulnerable to smudging and gashing. Happily, if you do gash a nail, a repair is easy to do. Just push the polish back together as best you can with a wet finger, smooth it out a bit and repair with a little fresh polish. The textured surface is very forgiving and hides repairs well. This polish wears pretty well for me, I usually get a solid four days out of it before I chip it.

What do you think of OPI Alcatraz Rocks? Do you own it? Do you love it as much as I do? If you haven't picked it up yet... Why haven't you picked it up yet? It is available at Ulta, JC Penney salons and other places you buy OPI, locally. It's LE so get it while the getting is good.

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading and have a wonderful day.
