Easy New Year's Eve Nail Look

Image
The New Year is approaching, fast. Parties, a night with your special someone, a family evening playing games and watching videos until the clock strikes midnight... Whatever our plans, we all want to look great and feel festive and sparkly on that evening. Here is a quick idea for your nails. No artistic talent is required, no special skills. Just two polishes; a rich, deep toned creme and a contrasting glitter. Then top it all with a high shine, quick dry top coat for maximum sparkle and flash. For this look I used China Glaze De - Light over China Glaze Out Like a Light. I love the sparkly, high shine glam of the gold glitter mix in De -Light topping the deep, greyed green of Out Like a Light. I finished with good old Seche Vite. You can use just about any polish and glitter combination but for maximum impact, choose polishes with plenty of contrast. Also, don't be afraid to try what might seem to be an unusual combination. I didn't think that these two polishes wou

Lancome Blush Subtil Palette

Image
Let us enjoy a look at the Lancome Blush Subtil Palette I decided to buy on impulse, last Summer.  **affiliate links** Lancome Blush Subtil Palette  in 375 Menage A Trois Flush was a limited edition for I think Spring. There is a similar shade and name (I linked to it) but this exact one is no longer available. I looked and looked for it but it just isn't to be found.  I'm sorry. The Lancome Blush Subtil Palettes are packaged in Lancome's signature sleek, black compacts with a gold rose stamped in one corner. The compact feels solid and smooth in the hand. Press the little button on the font and the lid gently springs up to reveal the contents. Inside the lid is the expected full sized mirror. In the well of the compact is three cakes of softly shimmery cheek beautifying goodness. First is a rosy pink shimmer blush, the middle shade, stamped with the signature Lancome rose is a baby pink satin then there is a narrow, barely pink champagne highlight. The tex

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi Effect Quadra Eye Shadow Tisse Mademoiselle

Image
Hello gentle reader. :affiliate: Inspired by their iconic tweeds, Chanel brings us  Les 4 Ombres Multi Effect Eye Shadow . I have #214 Tisse Mademoiselle, four versatile, beautiful neutral shades perfect for everyday and occasions, alike.  Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi Effect Eyeshadow  is packaged in a sleek, black compact with the interlocked C's logo in white, and snugly nestled in a synthetic velvet slip case. When I made my purchase at the Chanel counter, my items were placed in the most darling, tiny black and white Chanel shopping bag. I have that bag tucked away, I can't bring myself to toss it out. Open the eye shadow quad and inside is a full sized mirror in the lid and four colour coordinated round, domed soft satin pressed powder eye shadows. There are two sponge tipped applicators that promptly went into the drawer on the pile. I don't care what they say on them, I don't like sponge tip applicators for makeup application. The quad, clo

Afterburn: What I Like to Do With Bath and Body Works Candle Jars

Image
Hello gentle reader. If there is one thing I like as much as yummy smelling Bath and Body Works candles burning and making my home smell scrumptious is what I can think of to do with the jars after the candles are all gone. The obvious... Makeup brush holders. Everyone has makeup brushes in B&BW candle jars. Hey, why not? They are the perfect size for the job. I have a few pressed into service for that purpose, myself. The rest are doing a few other jobs. One is holding Shiseido Cotton Squares, cut in half. (Thank you  Laura  for the idea. Cutting them in half just makes so much more sense than flipping one over. :D ) One houses my fragrance samples, nestled in filler beads. I normally keep a lid on that jar to keep it dust free inside but I liked the look of  it without the lid for this photo. The bottom two are regular and Precision Tip Q-Tips. I burn through those puppies! It's nice to have big containers of them, close at hand. I also have a couple of these jar

Breast Cancer Awareness Nail Art for Reasons

Image
Hello gentle reader. Breast cancer awareness is a cause that is close to my heart and seared into my soul. I lost my mother to breast cancer last November. She was diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease and in spite of all best efforts and treatment, it spread fast and took her from us far, far too soon. I am not going to argue pink washing and ribbons and whether it is all "right" or "wrong." If my loss taught me anything it is that there is no right or wrong. There is only what there is. And while I strongly object to the rampant consumerism and the corporate money grab that has unfortunately become such a pervasive part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in the end, if all of these pink ribbons all over the place and BCA this and BCA that reminds just one woman to get checked, find her malignancy early and her life is saved; if just one daughter is not made to endure the devastating loss that I did, I am not going to speak too harshly against it. I

Lorac Mega Pro Palette: Review, Photographs and Some Swatches

Image
Hello gentle reader. In an epic dick move, I am going to do a post on a palette that was limited edition, highly sought after and sold out so fast that people barely had a chance to take a breath and it was gone. I'm not doing this review post to rub noses, to do a "Neener-neener!" or show off. I am just really thrilled that I actually managed to get in on a super limited edition, online only palette (not something that happens to me, very often!) and I want to talk about it and share it with my gentle readers. The Lorac Mega Pro Palette was marketed to be part of the Lorac Royal Collection for Holiday 2014. The exterior of the palette is the signature Lorac Pro palette cover material in a beautiful warm brick red with bold gold lettering. I love the look and feel of this palette. Like all of the Pro palettes, it is very slim and lightweight and easy to hold in the hand. The width of this palette is just about that of two full single Pro palettes and is just as

Foundation Fail: Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup

Image
Hello gentle reader. My hunt for my new, perfect foundation is turning out to be a nightmare. I have pretty demanding requirements: My foundation has to have buildable light/medium coverage, be compatible with my very dry skin, be satin to matte, very flexible and of course, free of all chemical sunscreens. So far, the foundations I have tried have been a wash. The foundation we are going to talk about today is no exception. This is Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup in 1.0. I live in Bum Fuck Egypt and until just the other day, there was no store in which I could obtain a sample so I just read reviews and took my best guess and ordered the full size bottle from the Ulta website. Big mistake. Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup in shade 1.0. Urban Decay says that this is a virtually invisible liquid foundation that creates a luminous, demi-matte finish. There are eighteen shades, ranging from porcelain to deep, in warm a

CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in No. 55 Romance

Image
Hello gentle reader. I am of the opinion that we all need a little luxury in our lives. Be it a beautiful bottle of fragrance, some gorgeous makeup, a very special handbag, that suit or dress that you saved for for so long, a great car you worked so hard for... Whatever it is, big ticket or small indulgence, I believe that we all deserve to treat ourselves to something very designer, very chi-chi from time to time, when the spirit moves us and the budget allows. The last time I was in the Valley, the spirit moved me. I had just had a doctor's appointment and I deserved a treat. Little kids get a lollipop, big kids get makeup. Specifically, CHANEL makeup. That day, I splurged on a lipstick and an eye shadow quad. (Which I will talk about in a future post.) The lipstick I chose, after much swatching, narrowing down of choices and agonized waffling back and forth between two finalists is CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine in 55 Romance. I almost chose Boy, as it is a beautiful neutral a

Japonesque Velvet Touch Blush in 03

Image
Hello gentle reader. When Ulta held a (not so) recent beauty steal event, one of the products I decided to pick up is the Japonesque Velvet Touch Blush in shade number 03. This blush normally retails for $22.00 but I was able to snap it up for a mere $11.00. Eleven dollars very well spent, as it turns out. Look at the box. It goes with my blog, don't you think? *grin* The packaging. Oh! The packaging! Gentle reader, it is gorgeous. The heavy plastic is smooth, silky and as shiny as a polished piece of agate. The corners are rounded and the compact feels lovely in the hand. This is luxury level packaging for a mid tier makeup product and I love it. The front view. I can't stand it! Oh! So nice! Just look at that subtle bevel and the rounded corners! You should hear the solid snap!  when the packaging is closed. So satisfying. Have some details. We all need a little information. I need to learn how to photograph shiny packaging without showing the reflection

Review: Luxie Lush Pink Perfection Professional Brush Set

Image
*Amazon Affiliate Link in Use* Hello gentle reader. Makeup brushes. I am turning into a damn ass hoarder of makeup brushes. Since the fist of the year I have switched out my few very, very old, very, very bedraggled makeup brushes for lots and lots of brand new, very nice makeup brushes. One recent acquisition is the  Luxie Lush Pink Perfection Professional Brush Set . This set of brushes was a gift to me from my husband. I like to spam his e-mail with stuff on my Amazon wishlist just in case he gets it into his head to pick up a little something for the old ball and chain. This brush set is one of those little somethings. Comprised of a synthetic leather covered two piece travel cup and twelve hand made synthetic makeup brushes, the  Luxie Lush Pink Perfection Set  is a complete set of brushes that can work as a minimalist's sole set of makeup brushes or is a beautiful addition to a makeup brush hoard  collection. This brush set is perfect for vegan and cruelty free bea

Review: Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy in Full House

Image
Hello gentle readers. Grab a cup of coffee. I'm about to talk your ear off. So to speak. Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy in Full House. Oy to the vey. This polish. This polish. This polish. This polish. I am gong to begin with a positive comment about this polish because it is going to get ugly, really soon and I don't believe in trashing products but this one is going to get a thorough smack upside the head. The colour. I love this beautiful turquoise colour. Now, let's dance. I shall start with the formula. The overall texture isn't bad, it isn't too thick or too runny but it is hard to work with. This polish is downright cantankerous. As it goes on, it streaks, it likes to drag, it will stack, as you add a second coat. This polish sits down where it is placed and it isn't too prone to flooding or running but I had a lot of cleanup trying to avoid the damned coat stacking issue at the edges. This polish doesn't self level worth a damn and if you don

Giving Up the Ghost: When Is it Time to Say Goodbye?

Image
Hello gentle readers. Put the champagne and streamers away. I'm not going anywhere. We all reach that point in our lives. We meet our perfect one. We encounter that perfect partner that makes us look and feel like a million bucks each and every day of our lives no matter what. When it is new and fresh and beautiful and exciting and perfect and we just can't get enough. And we are in perfect love and we think it will last forever. And we go along in a haze of rose coloured happiness, thinking that everything is going swimmingly. Then one day, hard, cold reality hits and it's all over. You look in the mirror or look very carefully at a photograph and the glaring truth becomes painfully obvious.  That foundation you thought was the perfect thing, your Holy Grail of Holiest Grails is now a gross, thick, clotted, creased, nasty, cake-y mess. When did that happen? How did that happen?  Why did that happen? It probably crept up on you slowly. You recognized the signs..
