I kept hearing buzz about a collection of new Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eye Shadows called the Leathers. Intrigued, I did a little swatch trolling and the next time I was in my local Walgreen's I picked up three of the six. I think that I'm going to go back for one more... That Plum looks awfully alluring, the more I think about it.
The new Leathers Color Tattoos are supposed to evoke the colours and textures of fine leather and suede. There are both shimmers and matte shades in this collection.
Chocolate Suede is a soft, deep brown base with a beautiful gold fleck and bronzy-gold shift. This shade is full of surprising depth and complexity.
Creamy Beige, a gentle, warm tan. This shadow is largely matte in most lights but get it under a bright, clear light and suddenly there is a beautiful, ethereal gold shimmer and shift.
Deep Forest, a dusty, pine green matte cream shadow. There is no shimmer or shift to this one, it is truly matte.
Swatches on the back of my hand. This top photo was taken under my lamps, the bottom photo in filtered daylight coming in through my window.
Here is the rundown:
- Chocolate Suede: Soft, very smooth, in spite of the shimmer. This shadow has excellent pigmentation and color payoff.
- Creamy Beige: Smooth, easy to work with. The pigmentation and payoff are fantastic.
- Deep Forest: A little stiff, not as creamy-dreamy as the other two. The pigmentation is fair, the payoff is a bit patchy and sheer.
Have you tried the Maybelline Color Tattoo Leathers? Which shades are your favorites? If you are in to trying them, you can find them at your local drugstore, mass market retailers and Ulta stores and on their website.
Thank you for reading my prose. Stay cool, gentle reader and have a beautiful day!
They look like great bases for a dark neutral smoky eye. There nice but probably ones I won't be picking up.
ReplyDeleteI totally want these. Alll of them!
ReplyDeleteI need the plum one and I am thinking I may grab the black, too. For the deeper eye looks for Fall and Winter. Yeah... I need them for that... ;)
ReplyDeleteI like them, they are pretty on their own or as bases. Very useful little jars of goop. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a ton of these. I bought Vintage Plum and Deep Forest a month ago, and I just bought Creamy Beige. I just love them!
ReplyDeleteI'd love the chocolate suede and creamy beige, but I have bad luck when it comes to finding LE tattoos!
ReplyDeleteTry the Ulta website. Last time I was drifting around on it, they were available. I found mine at Walgreen's tucked toward the back of a shelf of new stuff, far from the Maybelline section. Sometimes they are right under your nose but in a weird spot. I found the LE Mattes last year (the ones everyone wanted) on a shelf at floor level and wiped out the display. LOL
ReplyDeleteI want to pick up Vintage Plum. I may get the black one, I have ideas for layering some of my Loreal Infallible shadows over it. :D
ReplyDeleteChocolate Suede looks great! I just don´t understand why I still haven´t tried any of these :S
ReplyDeleteThose are nice shades
ReplyDeleteI bought all of these but the black. I am in love with the Maybelline Tattoos!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see that, Erika!
ReplyDeleteChocolate Suede is up my alley!
ReplyDeleteChocolate Suede is just plain old gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYou can say that, again.
ReplyDeleteRight? Woof! Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI own so many of the Tattoos that I hardly know what to do with them all. LOL
ReplyDeleteUh-huh. :D
ReplyDeleteWhat are you waiting for? If they are available in your neck of the woods, get to it. :D
ReplyDeleteI have Vintage Plum. I love it because I enjoy using purple as a base for an eye look, but like to keep it "dusty" looking and not too bright. This layered under shadows from the Wet n Wild Petal Pusher palette is perfect for me.
ReplyDeleteI'll do a post. :D
ReplyDeleteI have to be careful with purple. The wrong tone and I end up looking as if someone socked me in the eye. LOL
