I have recently rediscovered the joy of wearing large statement type fashion jewelry earrings. And while they are really pretty and fun, they are heavy. So heavy that when I tried to wear them, they pulled my earlobes down and stretched my piercings too much. Nope. Not comfortable and certainly not cute.
What to do?
My Galactic Drops (similar earrings here) from Bauble Bar are big. Huge. Look at them next to a lipstick for scale. They are also heavy and there is no way I can wear them, pierced. I decided to convert them to clip on earrings so that I can wear them more comfortably.
I did a little searching around on Amazon and I found these earring converters. They are simply a gold tone clip back finding with a short metal tube with a small rubber gasket inside soldered to the front.
To convert the pierced earring to clip, simply slip the post into the tube on the finding then gently, slowly bend the post so that the earring and finding are flush. Leave a tiny bit of room to allow the earring to slip off and back on, in case you would like to use the finding with other earrings. I have a couple of other pairs of earrings that I switch on and off with these.
My great big earrings, right up on my earlobes. Secure, comfortable and not pulling or stretching my piercings out of shape.
Do you have some big, heavy pierced earrings that have been languishing in a drawer because they are not so comfy to wear? Well, get yourself some conversion findings and enjoy your pretty jewelry in comfort and style.

This is such a great idea! I'm going to get about half a dozen of the converters. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. I'm glad this was helpful.
ReplyDeleteThose earrings are gorgeous. My mom has some similar that I admire... hoping that one day she will give them to me. My only concern is the discomfort I tend to experience from wearing clip-ons
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, Erika, although clips make my ear lobes itch, lol! I have a pair of gorgeous black drop earrings that are too heavy to wear. I will check to see if I can find a finding that's black that won't show.
ReplyDeleteThis is so helpful! I don't have huge earrings like that one that you own but its great to know its easier for you to wear them now.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Big earrings aren't everyone's cup of tea. I loved them in the 80's, I'm happy to wear them, again.
ReplyDeleteMy mom was somewhat of a soft touch, if I admired something, she would often gift it to me, so I was careful not to gush too much. Heh! Heh! Clip ons can make my lobes a little unhappy, too but it's better than the horrible pulling and stretching out my piercings. It's a trade off for me.
ReplyDeleteSilver may work, too. Have you tried painting them with clear polish to reduce the contact between your skin and the metal? May be worth a try.
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't, Erika. Great idea to try that. Some of my clip earrings have a bit of foam rubber on them and those are the most comfortable. I should probably just buy some foam rubber pads somewhere and stick those on the clip. I will see if I can find a silver finding.
ReplyDeleteNeat idea! I gave up on big earrings way back. Perhaps if I converted some I'd like them better.
ReplyDeleteMy mom's collection of costume jewelry is full of clipons. I'm always afraid they're going to fall off! Paranoia...
ReplyDeleteHave you tried adjusting them by squeezing the metal loop gently to tighten them a little? You could also get those little foam nose pads for glasses and cut them to fit the clips, stick them on. They are removable and don't leave behind damaging residue. Just beware that with constant wear, they can cause skin irritation. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's worth a try.
ReplyDeleteI almost bought these same earrings from Baublebar but was afraid they would be too heavy. Awesome find!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wear earrings :( I actually like these!
ReplyDeleteI'm always afraid clip-ons will fall of my earlobes! haha I have 3 holes in each ear - and I need to wear earrings more often!
ReplyDeletesimply amazing :D i love your diy
ReplyDeleteI love jewelry like this. I can't do clip-ons (they give me a headache) but I'm always looking for vintage-esque things that feel light and don't look like they're cheap. Heavy + Pierced = stretched holes I don't want to have in my ears lol
ReplyDeleteI'm buying these RIGHT NOW. I love big earrings but don't want earlobes to my knees!
ReplyDeleteYeah I need the same kind of thing for my boobs.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the stretched holes, either.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteAww. But thank you
ReplyDeleteTwinsies! I have three in each ear, too. It's my outer nod to my inner wild child. LOL
ReplyDeleteI got them on sale. Fifteen bucks. They are really heavy! Hence the converters. LOL
