I am firmly of the opinion that one can never own to many beautiful matte eye shadows. Hell, I am of the firm opinion that one can never own too many eye shadows, period. I'm kind of a sucker for them, you know.
When I first saw the Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette start hitting the blogs, I knew that I had to have it! The beautiful square, gold trimmed ombre purple enamel palette looks so trim and elegant sitting on my dressing table. It is sleek enough to slip easily into a makeup case drawer or a carry on bag to store it or take it away.

Lift the lid that secures with a magnetic closure and in the top is a full sized mirror that is large enough to do your eye look or a full face, should you be on the go. Twelve generously sized neutral matte shadows live in the well of the palette and each is individually labeled on the grid. No worrying about having to keep track of a plastic slip cover. Thank you, Tarte!
The shadows run in order, lightest to deep and the shades and tones all make perfect sense and work beautifully together in many permutations. Laid out in horizontal quads, top to bottom, these shadows make creating an eye look effortless and quick. The shadows in this palette work flawlessly with one another and they mix and play well with others.
Swatches above. Shown over primer:
- Free Spirit: Ivory matte. This one blends with my skin tone, hence why you can't see it well. It doesn't lack pigmentation.
- Force of Nature: Dark peach.
- Dreamer: Saddle brown.
- Multi -Tasker: Rich, chocolate brown.
- Caregiver: Cool, sweet pink.
- Natural Beauty: Rosy fawn.
- Best Friend: Medium, dusty purple.
- Bombshell: Deep, slightly blackened Concord grape purple.
- Super Mom: Cool beige. Another one that kind of blends in with my skin.
- Wanderer: Rich tan.
- Power Player: Classic taupe.
- Fashionista: Black.
These shadows are lovely and silky-soft to the touch. Multi - Tasker and Fashionista and Bombshell feel a little stiff to me, but they aren't hard or unworkable. I just need to pay them a little extra attention. Application is easy, the shadows blend beautifully and they build up easily if I want to wear a deeper, more smokey look. The darkest shades can double as a liner, if I so desire. I get all day wear without fading or creasing. I routinely use a shadow primer.
Yikes! Too much bronzer...
I can't remember exactly how I created this eye look. Which shadows I used and in what order escapes me. I think I used Natural Beauty, Wanderer, Power Player, Super Mom, Caregiver. Write it down, Erika! Cripes.
As with all of my Tarte shadows, I am really enjoying this palette and I'm happy that I bought it.
The Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eye Shadow Palette is $44.00 and is available on the Tarte Website, Ulta, Sephora, Macy's and sites and stores that carry Tarte.
