Snacking on NARS

Every year Sephora puts together adorable little birthday gifts for their Beauty Insiders. It is usually a couple of "deluxe" items from one well known makeup brand. In the past couple of years, I received little goodies from Benefit and Make Up Forever. This year, it was NARS. Please read on to see what was in my little Birthday Box, some swatches and what I think.

NARS Lip Pencil Sephora Birthday Gift

As I said, before the birthday gift this year was from NARS. I am still just over one hundred dollars shy of qualifying as a Rouge. I am a mere VIB and I received the birthday gift with two lip pencils. These snack sized versions of their full sized Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and Satin Lip Pencil was my first introduction to their lip pencil products.

Nars Velvet Matte and Satin Lip Pencils

I will begin with the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. A gorgeous, beautifully balanced, would look good on just about everyone, true red. While the colour isn't really all that unique; everyone needs a great red lippie and this portable, easy to use and wear pencil is worthy.

The silky, lightweight Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien is a delicate, smack it on, easy to love rose pink. Again, not necessarily new or all that different but very welcome in my collection!

And here they are, on. Cruella. Gorgeous! This pencil goes on satin-matte and will, over time dry down a bit to look and feel a bit more matte but it doesn't really go flat. There is just enough moisture in this formula that I can wear this colour, now and then. I find that my lips are more comfortable if I balm up and blot, before application.

Rikugien. No surprise, I love this shade and the moisturizing, lip loving formula! The delicate rose pink is a perfect, everyday neutral and is easy enough to splash on, even without a mirror.

I am happy with these little lippies. Both have great formulas and the colours that were selected are almost universally flattering. My only tiny gripe is that these are wood pencils that must be sharpened. It is a pain in the ass to get it precise and an unnecessary waste of beautiful, spendy product. Come on, NARS! Crawl out of the cave and smell the progress. There is twist up packaging, now. Wood aside, I'll be replacing these in full sizes when the little ones are done. I think that I need some other shades, as well... I see some gorgeous, bold pinks in the lineup.

If you are curious about these beautiful lip pencils, you can find the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and the Satin Lip Pencil in fourteen beautiful shades and tones. Both retail for $26.00 each.

Do you own any of these lip pencils? What do you think of them? What are your favorite shades? Spill!
