  • Relogy Skin Care | Pookie's Notes

So... Why is a #driedoutoldhag who doesn't break out reviewing a skin care line for acne prone skin? Well, the answer is simple, really. I am a moron. I misread a pitch e-mail early one morning before I was fully caffeinated and this lovely stuff landed on my doorstep, shortly thereafter. Great. Not only am I a moron, I am a moron with a skin care line that I can't in a million years put on my face. Now what do I do? I could send it back, I suppose. Or... I know! I'll get Pookie (my twenty-something son who just looooves being called Pookie) to test it out! Pookie loves his mom. He'll be a sport.

A little about Pookie (he has asked me to not use his real name or photographs online): Twenty-something, very fair, extremely sensitive, combo skin that is no longer actively breaking out but has large pores, congestion and texture issues because rather than using skin care, like most guys he "takes care of his skin" by letting his daily shampoo run down over his face ("It gets my face clean enough, mom!") and of course, shaving. Yes. I grabbed the products and my camera, fired off the necessary photos and the next time Pookie came to visit raid my refrigerator, I pounced. Being the solid dude he is, he agreed to use the products according to my instructions and report back.

Soft, Neutral Eye Look Featuring the Sonia Kashuk Sahara Sunset Eye Shadow Palette

A soft, neutral, shimmery eye is sometimes just the thing for a Summer makeup look.

A Pretty Summer Manicure Featuring KB Shimmer

The heat is on. Here in Arizona it is baking hot. Temps are trending above normal for this time of year and have gone from early Summer warm to trapped in Satan's living room searing. My air conditioner is working hard for it's money and I want everything to be light, fresh, cool and easy. And that includes my manicures. While I don't believe in locking myself into "seasonal" colours, this time of year, I tend to reach for more delicate polish shades and tones.

One of my favorite Summer nail polish colours is coral. KB Shimmer Blush Money is a sweet, easy peachy rose that is based on the Pantone Colour for 2015, Strawberry Ice. This beautiful coral pink crelly base is shot through with a gentle, diffused golden holo that will form subtle linear rainbows in bright, direct sun. So delicate and pretty! This is two coats with top coat. The formula on this polish is stellar. It applies like a dream with no streaking, pooling, running, dragging or bubbling. Dry time is good with Clearly on Top Quick Dry Top Coat

Maintaining healthy, soft cuticles is a challenge when you are busy, going out and enjoying all of the fun Summer activities. Pop a portable, leak resistant (trust me, if this thing were even the least bit messy, it would not be resting on one of my beautiful white prop flowers!) Cuticle Oil Pen into your purse or beach bag and when you have a little down time, sitting and waiting for the kids to finish their soccer practice or relaxing under a sunberella, reach for this no mess clicky pen and brush on a little soothing, cuticle pampering mini treatment. My favorite is the Pink Sugar. It smells so delicious and the scent lingers softly on my skin even after several hand washings. Yes. I'm a fan.

I hope that you enjoyed seeing this pretty for the season polish. What are your favorite Summer nail colours?

Easy, Everyday Eye Look Featuring the Gabriel Eye Shadow Trio in Matte Smokey Grey

Gabriel Cosmetics offers a new lineup of beautiful, wearable Eye Shadow Trios curated to enhance your eye colour and create beautiful, wearable looks, day after day.

I have the Smokey Matte Trio, three soft, coordinated shades that enhance and play off of my stormy grey eyes. I thought it would be fun to share the trio, swatches and an easy, everyday eye look I did with this trio.

Packaged in a slender, definitely feels bargain beauty plastic compact, the three eye shades are arranged as they are suggested you use them. A soft, taupe-y grey lid colour, a deeper, grey with a hint of purple for the crease and a gentle dove grey for highlighting the brow bone and inner corner of the eye. These three shades work beautifully together and can also play very nicely with other palettes to balance shimmery shadows and round out eye looks.

Here are swatches, over lightly moisturized skin. I forgot to put primer under, as I normally do.

I started this eye look with primer. I applied the lid colour with a flat shader then blended the edges up into the crease and onto my orbital bone with a blending brush. With a soft crease brush, I picked up a little of the grey colour and rocked it into my crease, going in about two thirds of the way and up onto the outer part of my orbital bone, then picked up a little more and deepened the outer V. I ran a little bit of the same dark grey under the outer corner of my eyes. (With my dark circles, I don't know what I was thinking, there. Oh, I know... Mama likes it smokey.) After softening and blending the edges with my blending brush, I used the top, lightest tone to highlight my brow bone and inner corner. A last quick blend to soften and slightly blow out the look and it was time for tight lining and upper lash line with slate grey gel liner and lashes received a nice dose of mascara.

This is a lovely little eye shadow trio. The shadows are soft, smooth and have good pigmentation. They are a little powdery but not crazy so. I had a little bit of fallout with the deepest shade but it was easily swept away with a clean Q-Tip. These shadows apply like a dream, blend beautifully together and they wear pretty well through a long day. I do not have oily lids and I use primer. I wore this eye look for about twelve hours and there was no creasing and minimal fading when I sat down at my dressing table to remove it.

If you like what you see, you can buy a Gabriel Eye Shadow Trio from the Gabriel Cosmetics website and from Whole Foods stores that carry cosmetics. We have a teeny-tiny Whole Foods, here in Prescott... I should pop in and see of they carry Gabriel. Parking around that store is a nightmare... Why they didn't take over a larger retail space with better parking is beyond me. There are plenty of open store buildings around here. But I digress.

Gabriel Cosmetics Eye Shadow Trios are cruelty free, vegan and gluten free.

Have you tried the Gabriel Eye Shadow Trios? What do you think?

SinfulColors Street Fusion | Swatches and Review

I know it's been a hot minute since I posted polish. And this little collection is going up... Late. My nails have been trashed! I have no idea what has been going on but they have been a mess. I've been struggling with them and I am just now, finally, beginning to get them back in to some acceptable shape for swatching and photographs. I have a lot of polish to catch up on.

SinfulColors is going bright with their new collection, Street Fusion. There are actually twenty-nine shades in this exciting collection of dazzling cremes, eye popping neons and sparkling glitters. I have six to share with you, today.

All six of these polishes are two or three coats but the glitters, which are one coat over a base colour. All swatches are topped with Seche Vite.

Otaku Anime: A bright, lemon yellow shimmer with the tiniest hit of lime. This one made my camera go rock, crying in a corner. It was a sad sight. This is three thin coats.

Sky Tree: Teal crelly with blue/purple shifting mini-mini flakies. This baby is so pretty in person! This swatch is two coats.

Fuji Fuji: This sparkling, silver/holo glitter mix is nothing too unique but it is pretty and has a very nice formula.

Maroon Fine: A rusty red crelly with a shifty gold to pink shimmer.

Pink Ansen: This one is very similar to another Sinful pink glitter that I own but it's not the same polish. This barely pink, translucent base is packed with iridescent pink glitter mix including petite bars that don't really look/behave like bars. Pink Ansen has a more fluid formula and is easier to apply. I tested this glitter over the other polishes and I decided to show it over Maroon Fine. I just liked the way these two polishes rub along together. It's an unusual combo that to my eyes, works.

Kiera Blue: A fun, easy wearing royal blue foil. This is two coats, three on my ring and pinkie, because ridges.

The four crellies all have nice, fluid formulas that applied easily. They flow off of their brushes, sit down where I ask them to, Otaku Anime was a tad streaky on the first two coats but was even and smooth by the third. The other three were good in two. I had to add a little extra on ring and pinkie on a couple of polishes only because of my demon ridges.

The glitters applied without giving any trouble, at all. Have plenty on the brush, smooth them up the nails and they will disperse the glitter bits right where you want them with very little additional effort.

This is a fun, super cute little bunch of polishes, the colours are perfect for Summer. Of the six my clear faves are Sky Tree, Maroon Fine and, much to my surprise, Pink Ansen. Which are you drawn to?

SinfulColors retail for $1.99 each and are available at Walgreen's and mass retailers.

Check SinfulColors out on Facebook and Instagram and you can follow on Twitter.

Mirabella Colour Luxe Go Glossy Lip Gloss Review notesfrommydressingtable.com

Much to my delight, Mirabella Beauty is expanding their Colour Luxe Lip Gloss line with brand new for Summer shades and I have them to share with you, today. Get ready to Go Glossy.

Mirablella Go Glossy Lip Glosses Review notesfrommydressingtable.com

I love Mirabella's lip gloss packaging. Elegant, simple but certainly not boring, a clear acrylic tube is trimmed with a faceted, bright silver band and a brushed silver cap. These glosses look pretty in the glass holder on my dressing table and when I pull one out of my bag to touch up my lips when out and about.

Mirabella Colour Luxe Go Glossy Lip Gloss Doe Foot Applicator notesfrommydressingtable.com

Delivery of the gloss is via a slender, paddle shaped velvety applicator tip on a long, plastic wand. I like a very neat application of whatever I am wearing on my lips. The applicator tip is big enough to do it's job effectively but it isn't so big that it glops gloss all over my face. The slightly rounded tip makes for easy control around contours and helps me to get a nice, precise application.

Mirabella Colour Luxe Go Glossy Lip Gloss Swatches Polish Sleek Glossed notesfrommydressingtable.com

Swatched here are the three perfect for the season shades:

    • Polish is a semi sheer, sweet milky baby pink.
    • Sleek is the most opaque of the three, closest to a true liquid lipstick. This beautiful deep rose is lip colour and gloss, all in one.
    • Glossed is a delicate, sheer peach with a dancing gold fleck.

Mirabella Colour Luxe Go Glossy Lip Gloss Polish Swatch notesfrommydressingtable.com

Polish on my lips. These milky, semi sheer glosses always settle into my lip lines. It's not obvious at a respectful distance, my lips just look pink. All-up-in-my-grill-macro? Yeah... I don't care. I love this shade. This gloss looks like a creme semi sheer but it has tiny sparkles in it that catch bright light.

Mirabella Colour Luxe Go Glossy Lip Gloss Sleek Swatch notesfrommydressingtable.com

Sleek is the grownup of the trio. This is the one that goes to the office, is tossed in a tote on the way to a meeting. This beautiful deep rose can serve as lipstick and gloss, all in one. Be aware that if you have little vertical lip lines, like I do, you will need a barrier pencil and lip liner to corral this beauty. It's a runner! I didn't bother with pencils for this lip swatch and it was plotting it's escape, just in that short amount of time.

Okay, why do dark lippies always make my lips look so... Kapow!? I have okay lips but when I put on a dark lipstick or gloss, all of a sudden it's here come Erika's lips. Weird. I always thought it was supposed to be the other way around.

    Anyway...

Mirabella Colour Luxe Go Glossy Lip Gloss Glossed Swatch notesfrommydressingtable.com

Glossed is my favorite of the three. I love sheer-ish glosses that have that glass like look and just a hint of colour that I can slick onto my lips all alone or over another lip colour.

Mirabella Colour Luxe Lip Glosses have a beautiful formula. Lightweight, silky smooth, they glide onto the lips and never feel tacky or sticky. They are supremely comfortable and my lips always feel drenched in moisture and care when I wear these glosses.

A price is paid for all of that lightweight comfort and pampering, tho. Wear time is short. These glosses are so delicate and easy that they don't hang out long. Add to that I am a lip smacker/rubber/lippie worrier and I'm reaching for my tube to touch up often. If you aren't as nutty as I am, you should get an hour or two before slicking on a quick coat.

One feature of these glosses that I love to distraction is that gorgeous vanilla frosting scent. It's just so sweet and good. It does linger softly for a little while but it isn't strong, I don't smell like a bakery coming down the hall, or anything and it does dissipate, after a few minutes. If you are very scent sensitive or just dislike scented cosmetics, this gloss may not be your cuppa.

Mirabella Colour Luxe Lip Glosses are cruelty free, paraben, talc and gluten free, as well.

If you like what you see here, the Mirabella Colour Luxe Go Glossy Lip Gloss colours for Summer will be available in July and will retail for $26.00 each. Mirabella Colour Luxe Lip Glosses and other beautiful mineral based get gorgeous goodies are available at Mirabella Beauty's main site, DermstoreLovelySkin dot ComSkin Care by Alana and other quality sites and shops that carry this fantastic line.

Have you tried Mirabella Colour Luxe Lip Glosses? Are you looking forward to these beautiful new Summer shades? Which would you choose? Please do tell, in a comment.

    Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

    ::affiliate::

One of the most useful and beautiful makeup products I have tried, lately is the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. I have been curious about this primer for a long time and I decided to buy the snack sized version, 0.33 oz. for $18.00 so that I could test drive it, see if I liked it and wanted to invest in the full size.

Packaged in a simple, frosted glass bottle with a black pump and cap, this mini is surprisingly elegant in it's appearance.

This lovely, silky formula smooths the skin, softens and diffuses fine lines, blurs imperfections, helps to minimize pores and provides some UV protection (a little bit... this is not an excuse to skip your hardcore sunscreen, gentle reader), thanks to it's chemical free SPF 15. A little bit goes a long way and I'm getting a lot of use out of my small size bottle. This primer locks my foundation or CC cream down all day long and, even tho it is meant to be mattifying, I don't find it to be drying. I also love to mix this primer with Cover FX Custom Cover Drops to make my own very lightweight, custom foundation.

    Beauty Blogger Math Ahead:

I like this primer so much and I am planning to buy a full size, very soon. The one ounce bottle is $52.00. The two ounce jumbo sized tube is $72.00. That might sound like a lot of money and it is, but when you think about it... If you're going to buy this stuff on the regular, you're better off buying the jumbo size and saving some money. Two one ounce bottles will set you back $104.00. Buying the jumbo size two ounce tube for $72.00 will save you $32.00. That's an eye shadow palette or a foundation or a luxury lipstick...

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is cruelty free, from reading the ingredients list seems to be vegan and is gluten free.

Have you tried the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer? How much do you love it?

  • NARS Audacious Lipstick in Claudia

    :::affiliate:::

I have been reading numerous blog posts and watching YouTube videos gushing over the NARS Audacious Lipsticks. Gushing, I say. Oh! The packaging! The formula! The application and wear! Just the best... Ever!!!

    Are they?

I decided to pick one up and put it through it's paces.

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Claudia Review notesfrommydressingtable.com

I bought the NARS Audacious Lipstick in Claudia, a bright, cool pink. The packaging is beautiful. Sleek, heavy and luxe in the hand, the squared tube has the NARS logo in satin relief around the lower half of the outer tube and of course, that lovely magnetic closure that pulls the cap perfectly into place and holds it securely there to prevent in bag yuk events. Plus, let's admit it... It's just a lot of fun to play with.

Twist the bullet up and you will see a smooth, slightly glossy bullet with a beautiful, sharp trim and a flat angle down the front with NARS cleanly embossed in the lipstick. Every detail is beautifully attended to.

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Claudia Swatch notesfrommydressingtable.com

The NARS Audacious formula is a satin creme, almost velvety in texture. Dense, highly pigmented and very smooth.

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Claudia Lip Swatch notesfrommydressingtable.com

Application is smooth and tug and drag free. The NARS Audacious Lipstick carries the claim of single stroke coverage. True? Not in my experience. I have to work for it. I will say to that once it's on and in place, this lippie affords complete coverage and this bright pink can stand up to my naturally pigmented lips.

Wear time for me from this lipstick is not stellar. I get breakdown at the moisture line then out from there and I need to check and touch this lipstick up on a fairly regular basis. I don't mind this. I am a routine lippie checker, it's part of my thing. So that is not a strike against it. If I need a lip colour to stay put without attention for a long time, I would definitely choose something else.

The comfort factor for me with this formula is not high, at all. If I apply this lipstick to bare lips, I get better wear but my lips are dry and crying for release from their beautiful prison within a few hours. If I apply lip balm, first and remove my lipstick and balm up midday and reapply my lips can wear this formula pretty well all day but not two days in a row.

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Claudia On My Lips notesfrommydressingtable.com

I wish that my lips weren't so damned sensitive and snotty because I honestly do like the NARS Audacious Lipstick. The packaging is gorgeous and fun, the formula is lovely, it is available in thirty stunning shades, meaning that there is something for everyone. It looks fabulous on the lips and it's just good stuff. I will wear and enjoy the tube I have but I just can't wear it as much as I would love to and for that reason, alone I won't be purchasing any more of this formula.

NARS should make a line of gorgeous shine lipsticks with a super hydrating, gel like texture and their fantastic colour selection. You know, like the CHANEL Rouge Cocos and the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine. Now, I'd be all over and could wear the hell out of those. Just thought I'd drop that suggestion here because you all know that the who's who at NARS routinely read my blog.

NARS Audacious Lipstick  is $32.00 and can be purchased at SephoraNordstromNeiman MarcusBloomingdale's Saks to name a few.

Do you wear this lipstick? Love it? What is your favorite shade?
