My December "The Party Goers" Play! By Sephora Beauty Subscription Box is a bit of a bummer. This party beauty themed lineup has left me feeling as if the party was over, before I even arrived. The black bag with rose gold printing and the gold ribbon tie is kind of pretty, tho!
The six products in the box are curated to get us to a party looking our fresh, beautiful best. Let's take a gander at the contents, shall we?
Dry Bar Detox Dry Shampoo. I have heard so many rave reviews of this dry shampoo and I was excited to receive this cute little can and I couldn't wait to try it. Until I read the ingredients. Oh, Dry Bar! Why did you have to do me dirty? Whyyyy?? Tell me why anyone would put Octinoxate in dry shampoo? Who is applying and reapplying enough dry shampoo to their hair to derive the slightest bit of benefit from the sunscreen? Thanks a lot for killing my enthusiasm for your brand. I'll likely toss this product as an extra into a giveaway package. Someone may as well enjoy it, as I certainly can not.
Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray. I have been wanting to try this setting spray so I was tickled to receive this snack sized bottle to test drive. I have dry skin and as long as I use a primer, my makeup normally lasts all day for me but this spray should come in handy to help prevent makeup meltdown on hot Arizona Summer days or if I know that it's going to be a very long day and I won't have the chance to check and touch up my makeup.
Bobbi Brown Smoky Eye Mascara. I think that they gave the wrong name. The Smoky Eye Mascara is in a white (silver?) tube. This tube is black. Whatever. I have never tried Bobbi Brown mascara so it will be fun to play with this sample.
Make Up For Ever Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer. I like a good foundation primer, for sure and I hear good things about this one so I should enjoy it. I'll let ya know.
Another fucking Sephora Cream Lip Stain? This one is in Always Red. Stahp! with the Sephora lippies in almost every box! They are pretty enough to look at but the formulas destroy my lips and I'm over receiving samples of them. This is another toss in a giveaway package extra. Bleargh!
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon. The notes listed are: Vanilla Bourbon, Oakwood and Tuberose. I'm not sure what I think of this fragrance. There are notes I love, including the vanilla, bourbon and the tuberose but this fragrance is a bit more woody than I normally like. I can take woods, if they are very soft and a distant note. When wood is this forward, I struggle with it. I don't know. A part of me wants to adore this scent and the other wants to run screaming far, far away from it. I have a tiny rollerball of this scent, as well so I need to really wear it and live with it, mix it with other Nirvana scents and see how it goes.
Out of the six products in my Play by Sephora box, three are going to be good, I can just feel it. Two are an abject failure and will be rehomed, unopened and one is on the bubble. Not an overwhelming success. I have been so pleased with past boxes that receiving one that doesn't blow my skirt up is not a big deal. I have no doubt that January is going to be a delight.
It had better be!
If you are thinking that a subscription to the Play! By Sephora Beauty Box, it is an affordable ten dollars a month and is billed to the credit/debit card you keep on file with Sephora. What could be easier or more fun?
Do you subscribe? Are you happy with the service and what you have received? What did you think of this month's box?
