Fashion Flash ~ Happy Summer!

I am too stupid to breathe unassisted. I swear. What is wrong with me? Forgetting to post Fashion Flash. Better late than never, I guess.

This week Fashion Flash is hosted by one of the newer additions to our tribe, Sheila of Painted Ladies. Sheila is a mom, makeup artist and bloggess extraordinaire. Go on over to check out her version of our weekly news mag and say hi.

Heat Proof Summer Makeup for Dry and Maturing Skin ~ Makeup Wars

The heat is on! Dude... It's hotter than the hinges of Hades, here in Arizona and summer is just getting started. On top of trying not to bake to death in this heat, stay properly hydrated and protect my delicate, flower face and the rest of me from the intense rays of Old Sol, there is the additional challenge of keeping my makeup intact through a long, hot day. Lucky for me, I've been living here, in the Southwest for a long time and over the years, I've learned what products to use and how best to apply them for a glowingly fresh, melt proof finish that lasts for hours and hours.

Some of my best tips for looking just made up hours after I walk out the door are:

Lock it Down! I use primers and setting sprays to make sure that my carefully applied makeup isn't going to slide off my face or simply fade away.

Layer it Up! Light, even sheer layers building up coverage just where I most need it and letting my skin shine through where I don't need as much, keeps me looking fresh and polished as the sun and temperatures rise.

Scale it Down! I like to use lots of products as well as anyone but when it's 100 + degrees and I'm already feeling prickly and stuffy, a pared down routine is best for my look, my skin and my sanity.

Don't Fight the Glow! Let's face it, when it's hotter than Satan's ball sack, some sweat and oil are going to happen. Yes, even to a dried out old hag, such as myself. Instead of driving myself crazy trying to prevent it, I exploit it by amping up the radiance with softly luminous colour cosmetics.

Some of my summer favorites. And... A couple of much wanted wishlist items that I just know would work beautifully for me.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is one of my all time favorite things, ever. Sadly, I've gotten to the point that it's not hydrating enough for me in the dead of winter but it still works a treat this time of year to keep my foundation smooth and in place.

Speaking of foundation... Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick. Holy shit, this stuff is good! In summer, I like to buff it in with it's matching brush, sheering it where I don't need so much coverage and building it up in light layers where I need a little more. I like to then meld it all together and refine it with a damp Beauty Blender. This foundation is perfect for my dry, maturing skin because it gives me the adjustable coverage I need, isn't drying and it doesn't settle into my wrinkles (yes, I have a few *le sigh*) or those annoying tiny fine lines around my chin and mouth that can make the wrong foundation and my face look like forty miles of bad road.

Creme blush is next, for me. I have a couple of beautiful ones that I very much enjoy but I'm finding myself seriously craving the NARS Liquid Blush in Orgasm. I haven't tried it, yet but I just know that it would be darling on me.

Highlighter is one of my makeup addictions. It is up there with eye shadow palettes for me. I only own one creme highlighter, right now but I'm thinking that I really. Really. need to add the RMS Beauty Living Luminizer to my little makeup family. What do you think? Is it a must have?

It's no secret that I create my brows from scratch. When it's hot and, during the Monsoon, humid as fuck, I rely on Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Taupe. I have other brow pencils and powders that I like and enjoy; Brow Wiz remains my holy grail, reach for it when my brows must not fail pencil.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour is a gorgeous, apply in a trice, last all day creme shadow pencil that can be used alone as a wash of colour all over my lid or combined with other shades for a more intricate look. I love how this shadow looks, on and that it never creases, smears or fades, even when I have a blonde moment and forget eye primer. A darker shade, smudged along my lash line lets me forgo liner, which I often don't feel like futzing with when my eyes are unhappy, thanks to allergies.

When it is time for mascara, I need a solid performer that won't smear, transfer or flake all over my face. One of those solid performers is my trusted old pal Tarte lights Camera Lashes 4-In-1 Mascara. Long, fluttery, voluminous lashes. What more could I want?

Now is when I gently buff on a light layer of powder. My go to is NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder. Why now? Well, because my next step is a powder bronzer. I haven't yet met a creme or liquid bronzer that I like so powder it is. I love NARS Laguna Bronzing Powder. It is the perfect summer bronzer. Not too dark, not orange-y, softly radiant... I can imagine that I almost have that J-Lo Glow, almost, when I'm wearing it. Now you can see why I apply a little powder first. In my experience, this bronzer works best on a set face.

When it's hot and stuffy, I like a softly glossy lip that is quick and easy to apply and retouch and doesn't feel goopy or slide off. NARS Satin Lip Pencil is a no brainer. It is easy to toss in my bag and I can even smack it on without a mirror, if I need to and I know that I won't look as if I applied it while riding a roller coaster.

Last step, is a setting spray. There are a bunch available. Urban Decay Chill Cooling and Hydrating Makeup Setting Spray is that final, refreshing Lock it Down step that knocks down any powdery-ness, enhances the glow of my highlighter and adds a little more hydration to my dry skin.

I know that this reads like a lot, but when it's in the process, it's actually very quick, once I get my dark circles and brows sorted. And my makeup really does look fresh and intact, all the long hot day. I just get a little more glow-y as the day progresses. Not a bad thing, really. Glow is youthful, luminous skin is always in fashion.

I hope that you find my tips and suggestions useful and that you enjoy a gorgeous, melt free summer. If you did like this post, I'd love it if you'd share it! Don't forget to read my fellow Makeup Wars bloggers' posts. They all have great tips for various summer makeup challenges.

Nimni Cream from HydroPeptide

//product provided to me for editorial consideration//all opinions are my own//

I recently got the opportunity to try a new to me moisturizer from HydroPeptide and today, I'm going to share my early thoughts on it with you.

hydropeptide-nimni-cream

I was excited to try Nimni Cream and I've been using it for a few weeks, now. This pretty little blue jar comes with some pretty hefty claims.

This patented support complex is formulated with specialized ingredients to offer significant improvement in skin's fullness and elasticity. Patented Collagen Support Complex and time released Retinol and antioxidants hydrate, firm and help restore some of the fullness lost with aging.

This fresh-herbal scented, thick cream drops quickly into my skin and makes my very dry skin feel so hydrated and soft. I can even use this as a night cream. Astonishing for such a lightweight cream and I can feel a subtle firming effect. Do I look ten years younger? Well... Nope. I didn't expect to and to be honest, I've not been using this cream long enough to know if I am going to see appreciable, long term results but I'm happy to keep using it to see what transpires.

If you're interested in trying this cream, yourself you can buy it here.

Have you tried this anti aging cream?

//product provided for editorial consideration//affiliate links that, at no cost to you help support my blog are in use//

Hyaluronic Acid is one of my skin's power ingredients and for very good reason and Hyla 3D HA Activating Complex delivers the goods thanks to eight key ingredients:
  • Liposomal Encapsulated HA
  • Cross-Linked HA
  • Ultra-Low Molecular Weight HA
  • Traditional HA
  • Tissue Respiratory Factor
  • HA Booster
  • HA Peptide
  • Coenzyme Q10

As we age, our skin starts to lose the essential elements normally found in young, healthy skin. One of those elements is Hyaluronic Acid, which leads to loss of volume and firmness. Jan Marini Hyla 3D HA Activating Complex helps to enhance and boost natural occurring Collagen, Elastin and Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate, replenish fullness and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Now, I don't know about you but these are benefits that my skin can use!

This serum is formulated to work for just about every skin type; oily, normal, dry... Even sensitive and acne prone. If you have younger, more oily skin, this serum may be the only moisturizer you need. If, like me you have dry skin, this serum is amazingly hydrating. Seriously. I can apply this stuff, a light moisturizer that I would normally not use and my skin is baby soft, plumped and comfortable all day long. And this serum is so silky smooth and feels so light that it's gorgeous under makeup. Oh! for night, I pair this with my beloved Sunday Riley Flora Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil and my complexion is singing an aria.

So, what's in this stuff that makes it such a boon to my face? Well, here are the ingredients:
Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Saccharomyces Lysate Extract, Oligopeptide-24, Ubiquinone, Calcium Ketogluconate, Peucedanum Graveolens (Dill) Extract, Panthenol, Lecithin, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Tocopherol, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Xanthan Gum, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Phosphate, Pentylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Oleate, Citric Acid, Isoceteth-10, Silica, Lactobacillus Ferment, Alcohol, Hexylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol
Patent Pending.

It is important to follow the dispensing and application directions on the label. Trust me, they aren't there, just for fun. If I forget or neglect to follow the directions, I notice a difference in how this serum applies and performs.

Have you tried Jan Marini Hyla 3D HA Activating Complex? This is the second product from this skin care line that I have had the opportunity to experience and my assessment is that this is solid, results oriented skin care that delivers and I'd love to try more of this line.
