New V. Old - Tangle Teezer Detangling Hair Brush Model Smackdown! Which One Will Win?

New V. Old - Tangle Teezer Detangling Hair Brush Model Smackdown! Which One Will Win? 1

out with the old, in with the new?

I did a little shopping, recently and one of the items I bought is a new Tangle Teezer to replace my old-old-old faithful Original Tangle Teezer that I've owned and used for years and years and I thought that it would be fun to do a little smackdown match between the two brushes to see which one best suits my hair.

meet the contestants

In this corner, we have the sparkly, purple Tangle Teezer Original Detangling Hair Brush that has been a part of my beauty routine for longer than I care to admit and in the other corner is my brand new, salsa red Tangle Teezer for Thick, Wavy and Curly hair. It's time to choose which brush will be the right fit for my own hair, so they must be put to the ultimate test to determine which will be victorious and claim the place of honor on my dressing table.

the match-up

If you look at the close up of my old purple Tangle Teezer, you will see that the front of the brush has separated, rather like the front of a old, worn out shoe and that the bristles are broken down and curled over. Part of that is because of age and use and part of it is because my hair is thick, wurly and it takes a toll on any hair brush I choose to use. The advantages to my old, original brush are that it truly does slip through tangles, even in wet hair without damaging or causing split ends and it smooths and polishes my hair when I brush it, dry. I have fewer broken or fallen hairs in my brush, when I'm done brushing my hair. The drawback to this brush is that the bristles are too short and a bit flimsy and I have to take a lot of passes on both the top and under layers to fully detangle and smooth my tresses.

My Tangle Teezer for Thick and Curly Hair is the new design. It has all of the advantages of my old Tangle Teezer, including that comfy to hold curvy, domed bean shape as well as a pretty, diamond embossed pattern around the edge and the bristles for this model are longer, thicker and more sturdy so this brush simply glides through my hair even when it's a wet, tangly mess with fewer passes and it does a better job, faster. I thought that I wasn't going to like that this brush is a little smaller than my old Tangle Teezer but I like how this brush fits in my hand.

the results are in...

The winner and new champion is my Tangle Teezer Thick and Curly Hair Detangling Brush. I liked my old one but I la-la-love my new one! Maybe I'll let my cat have the old one. What do you say, Marley? Want a new hair brush?

Have you tried a Tangle Teezer? Did you like it? I see that they have a new one with a handle. If they make a handled model for thick/curly hair, I'd be all over that.

  8. I'm embarrassed to say that I had a Tangle Teezer years ago but it hurt my head. I gave it to my DH who didn't like it and tossed it. I'm a hoarder and now I wish I'd hoarded this. I do have a smaller version from Macaron that I like at least.

  10. I have the original one. I think for 5 years now so it doesn't hurt to buy a new one. Btw, I like your vanity. Have you done a post about it?

  11. I still have my original TT from the old days on LHC, but I've supplemented with 2 newer ones in the past couple of years. I can't use another brush without ripping out handfuls of hair, so I'll be a TT devotee for as long as my hair is long! My only complaint is something that you actually like: the bean shape. When I encounter a fairy knot, it yanks the brush out of my hand and the brush goes flying across the room. I wish they made one with a sturdy handle.

  12. I've never used the Tangle Teazer before, but it sounds like something I need. I have thick, wavy hair and wear it curly 95% of the time.
