Unboxing My February and March Boxy Charm Beauty Subscription Boxes
I'm a slackerYep. I'm late getting this up again but I decided to do a two month bonus two-fer so there is that. I am such a slacker at blogging, of late yet I wonder why my traffic is in the crapper... Yeah. Self inflicted.
what is this Boxy Charm thing all about?Boxy Charm is, in my opinion one of the best beauty subscription services going. For just $21.00 a month, you receive a box packed with full sized and generous travel sized beauty products from brands like Cover FX, Tarte, Too Faced, Farmacy, Wander Beauty, Pretty Vulgar, Touch in Sol and so many more. Every box has a minimum value of $100.00 and the value many of my boxes have well exceeded that number. Some boxes have been hit and miss for me but overall, this subscription service is a lot of fun, has enriched my beauty routine and supplied me with gifts for friends and family, too.
what came in my February After Glow box?
February's box was a mix of makeup and skin care to help enhance your glow.
Touch in Sol No Poreblem Primer, $9.00 for 1.1 fl oz./30 mL. This silky primer smooths skin, covers pores and helps fill fine lines while it locks down makeup for a lasting, more flawless looking finish all day long.
Farmacy Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser, $28.00 5 fl oz./150 mL. This very generous 3.4 fl oz. travel size is perfect to toss in an overnight bag or carry on. Farmacy is clean beauty that your skin will love.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, $24.00. This is a full size. I've had snack sized tubes of this mascara and I like it. I'll crack into this one when I use up the two mascaras I have going, now.
Trestique Prime + Color Lip Glaze, $25.00. I received the shade English Rose and this is a full size. This is a pretty dark rose pink that I think will work for me, I need to test drive it for comfort before I make a determination.
Pretty Vulgar Shimmering Swan Highlighter, $32.00 in Sparkling Sass, a gold with peachy undertones. This highlighter is far too dark for my skin tone. I haven't yet decided whether I will keep it for the pretty packaging and the 'gram or if I'll rehome it. I would really love it if Boxy Charm would include some face products (and lippies, for that matter) more suited to fair skin. I've seen swatches of this highlighter in lighter tones and it sure is pretty. *sigh
The total value of this Boxy Charm box was $105.00.
I like the contents of my February box and I'll use most of the items so this one was a hit!
time to take a look at March
La Vie En Rose
...is the pink-rose theme for the March Boxy Charm box. This box contained four full sized products and two full sized makeup brushes that all embraced pink and rose gold loveliness.
Beginning with the brushes (because some moron whose name we won't mention forgot to take pics of the brushes, on their own...) Royal & Langnickel MODA Powder and Soft Glow Brush Kit, $29.99 from Boxy Charm. These charming pink metallic brushes are as pretty as a picture and the synthetic bristles are soft as a bunny. The powder brush has enough body to dust powder on and off of the skin and buff bronzer in flawlessly. The glow brush is perfectly tapered, soft as an angel's wing and the perfect tool to ever so gently powder under the eyes to set concealer or apply blush or highlight to perfection. This would also be a lovely point powder brush for those of us who like to powder but want just the barest breath of powder on our skin. I tried to find other listings for these brushes and wasn't successful. Check your local mass retailers that sell Royal & Langnickel, maybe they are in store.
Cover FX Perfector Face Palette, $45.00. I received the light/Medium palette. Again, I would have loved to have seen a palette for fair skin. The highlighters and the finishing powder are too dark for me, tho I think that I can use them on my eyes. The "Contour" is too warm/tan to serve me as a contour but it makes a pretty, skin warming bronzer. The Blush is a lovely shade that looks nice on my skin. The Brightener can serve as a highlight for me. As disappointed as I am by the shades in this palette, I will say that the powders are lovely and silky-smooth and have nice pigmentation and they apply, build and blend well. If you have a skin tone with which these shades will work, this palette might be a very good purchase for you.
Wander Beauty Lift Off Purifying and Brightening Peel Off Mask, $34.00. This is a full size. I'm just waiting a bit to use up a few other masks before opening yet another one. If this is as delightful as other Wander products I've tried, I'm going to love it.
Ofra Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick, $17.00 at Ulta Beauty. The shade is Monaco, a pretty, icy pink. I didn't open this because I knew that I wouldn't wear it. My lips and liquid lipsticks don't get along and I always pass along liquid lipsticks that I receive. Better that they go to loving homes where they will be enjoyed than languish, unloved in a box on a shelf in my studio.
Appeal Liquid Eye Shadow, 21.00. I'm trying to work up the nerve to try this! I don't normally use very shiny, liquid eye shadows. Maybe I need to step out of the box. Or, maybe it will look ludicrous on my mature, hooded eyes...
The total value of this Boxy Charm box was: $147.00.
This box was hit and miss for me, personally. Not every box is going to be an absolute home run but overall, I am still very happy with this subscription box, the majority of the items I receive are products that I like and make good use of.
