Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick 2 in Dance Floor Princess and JK Magic | Do They Live Up to the Hype?
Because I'm Crazy
Have you ever done something as crazy as to buy two... Not just one, but two expensive lipsticks based on packaging and presentation, alone, not knowing if you're going to love the formula and colours? I did. I bought two beautiful new Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips 2 lipsticks before I knew if I would like the colours in person or if the formula would work for me. Curious to know if these lipsticks live up to the hype? Keep reading.
Let's Begin with the PackagingOh, my goddess. My photos are so blurry! Is it my phone camera? My slightly shaky hands? The Camera Chronicles continue. As does my bitching about them. That aside, how beautiful is the outer packaging of these lipsticks? The highly detailed, decorated double boxes that match the tubes, inside. I confess, I'm still hanging on to those pretty little boxes, for now. Normally, I open up products and discard the outer boxes, right away, as I don't like to keep clutter around but I want to keep these for a bit before I round file them.
Like anyone, I am subject to hype, especially when it comes to a makeup brand that I've been drooling over since the first hints of buzz about it began to hit the beautyverse. Charlotte Tilbury offers a full range of high quality colour cosmetics and a more limited collection of skin care. I've bought some makeup items but I haven't delved into the skin care, yet. My foray into this brand has to go in low and slow because these luxury products command luxury prices and I only have so much budget to spare.
Two of the products from this line that I purchased are Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick 2 in the shades Dancefloor Princess and JK Magic. The Hot Lips 2, one of the most recent lipstick offerings from this line are available in two finishes, satin and matte. I chose satin, as I prefer a soft, glossy finish and matte finishes and my lips are not normally happy bedfellows. I was a little nervous about purchasing these lipsticks sight unseen, online as my lips have been known to react negatively to lipstick formulas touted to be hydrating and comfortable.
Beautiful Designs to EnjoyOh! Just look how pretty those tubes are! The designs are so beautifully done and the colors are fetching. I love the rose gold trim and logo plate and end cap, they give a sense of weight and high design to simple lipstick tubes that makes them feel luxe and special. I'm not wild about leopard or any other animal print but I wanted the shade Dancefloor Princess so I am happy to have this tiny touch of leopard in my makeup case
Every Perfect DetailWhen you roll up the bullet on a Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips 2 lipstick, the bullet is perfect to the eye. Silken smooth, even and clean with an impeccable cut and a simply adorable kiss lip motif embossed in the bullet.
Dancefloor Princess, in the red and black leopard print tube is described as a "pop pink" and is a soft, extremely flattering creamy pink that looks as if it was formulated just for me. Seriously, it is my perfect, neutral pink and I love, love, love this shade!
JK Magic in the stunning black, gold and rose gold moons, stars and comets embellished tube (can you tell that I adore this design?) is a beautiful, neutral rosy nude. I am forever looking for a flattering to me nude that isn't brown, cadaver beige or the ubiquitous peachy-nude; shades that either make me look sick or like a corpse. Not cute! JK Magic has just enough pink-rose to look alive and rich on my lips and flatter my skin tone.
You may ask why I pay so much money for neutral and "my lips but better" type shades. Well, at the price luxury lipsticks command, I want to be sure that I'm going to get full use and enjoyment out of them and I tend to more often wear neutral to me shades than brights, reds or fashion colours.
Swatches (I'm Sorry!)Please enjoy this crappy photograph of my garbage swatches of JK Magic (on the left as you face your device) and Dancefloor Princess, to the right. Trust me, these lipsticks are beautiful, even tho my ineptitude doesn't show that, in full.
One would think, as long as I've been blogging that I'd do a better job of swatching, wouldn't one? Nope. I still suck.
Mix and Match!Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips 2 lipsticks have the additional and fun option to replace your favorite shade or add a new one to a beloved tube with the Hot Lips 2 Hot Lips Refill Kit or refills in your shade choice. It's a snap to do; just remove the lid, grasp the metal inner tube firmly and pull it out of the tube then place it in the desired tube and press it down. Easy-peasy.
I love that the refills are available in all shades but it would be nice if we could buy the empty tubes in our choice of designs so that we could customize our own lipstick/tube combos more freely. Obvi, Charlotte Tilbury reads here alllll of the time and will make that happen.
Formula, Comfort and Wear, Where to Buy and Ingredients ListThe formula on these Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips 2 lipsticks is beautiful. Application is smooth and offers flawless coverage in a few easy swipes. The look is soft with a satin shine and wear time is about average for a lightweight, hydrating satin formula. Stellar, not but I'm not constantly reaching for my lipstick for a touch up. Happily, these lippies are surprisingly comfortable, even for my incredibly sensitive and picky lips.
I balm up well while applying my makeup, then blot away the excess balm just before I put my lipstick on and I can wear these lipsticks for hours without traumatizing my lips or having to rehab them for days, afterward. I know... It sounds all so dramatic but trust me, it's a pain in my ass.
I don't notice much bleeding into my fine, vertical lip lines when wearing these lipsticks but a lip liner is a nice addition to the party, just to be sure that my lipstick isn't escaping my lips, where it belongs and crawling all over my face. I splurged on a Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner to wear with these lipsticks but that was after these photos were taken. I'm looking forward to trying it with it's sister lipsticks, soon. I'll let you know what I think, when I do.

I very much like the Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips 2 lipsticks in the Satin formula that I bought and I wouldn't mind having a couple of more shades. I'd also like to try this brand's lip glosses because you know me, I'm a born sucker for a great lip gloss. Have been since my Sixth Grade Maybelline Kissing Potion Lip Gloss days.
Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips 2 are available in two finishes, Satin and Matte and there are five colours per finish and an additional clear Satin and they are $37.00 each. I bought mine from Sephora but you can also fond them on Charlotte Tilbury, Nordstrom and other stores that carry the line.
Have you tried these beautiful lipsticks? What do you think about them? Please, do tell.
