Fashion Flash Thanksgiving Week Edition

Greetings and Salutations, Gentle Reader. This is Thanksgiving week and the start of the holiday season. Husband, son and myself will be celebrating in our little Bubble of Three, with Daisy Adair, our kitty. It kind of sucks that there will be no family gatherings, Christmas Eve blowout at our place but we have decided to stay apart, this year so that hopefully, by this time, next year we can be planning to get together with family and friends and celebrate getting through the pandemic and moving forward, happier and healthy. It's a small price to pay, in the grand scheme of things.

This week, it is my pleasure to host Fashion Flash. I admit, I'm not blogging much. My mental health has been not as great as it could be and I spend time I'm supposed to be taking pictures, editing them, writing and promoting on social media curled up with my tablet, alternately binging whatever mindless distractions I can find and crying. I need to shake it off, I hope that I can. It didn't even occur to me how far I've spiraled until I typed this out. Should I delete? Do I need to be bleating about my "struggles?" So many people have it so much worse than I do. Husband and son are both still working, we have a roof, what we need, even some wants plus a bit to share with others, as well. I honestly thought that this was all no big deal but I guess the deal is bigger than I was letting myself admit.  And yeah, I'm leaving the bleating in place, this is my blog and while I try to keep it happy and upbeat in my little corner of the Internet, I also keep it honest and real, so... there you have it.

Anyway, I hope that you skipped all of that above and are ready to dive in and enjoy this week's Fashion Flash!

The Beauty Spotlight Team Weekly Roundup for Mid-September

Who else is totally freaking out that September is already half gone? I mean, wasn't it just the first, like, yesterday? And before we know it, October will be here and this year is going by sooo fast! I am not complaining, really because 2020 has been an epic shit show with with the pandemic and our economy hitting the skids, the West Coast burning and of course, the election cycle, right in the middle of all of it.

Fashion Flash | Mid September Issue

Summer is fast headed out the door and I'm gearing up for fall. I have ideas for decor, which means that some shopping needs to happen and please don't let me forget to polish that damned silver pitcher that's lurking in my downstairs closet, so that I can put a new floral arrangement in it. I want to do a soft glam fall, with cream, gentle rose and mauve and hints of blue with sparkly silver and gold metallic accents. What will really happen is that I'll end up hauling out all of the usual and placing it about and calling it good. *shrug I am forever trapped between my decorating aspirations and my budget. Guess which one wins? Yeah.

Anyway... While I'd like to chat home and holiday decor and buy all of the things, what I really need to do is stop nattering and get busy putting this issue of Fashion Flash together! What, exactly is Fashion Flash? It is a weekly e-newsletter collecting articles and blog posts by forty-plus writers for forty-plus readers spanning beauty, fashion, lifestyle and decor, wellness and fitness, and travel. I hope that you enjoy this week's Fashion Flash.

The Beauty Spotlight Team Labor Day Weekend Edition

Happy September, everyone! This long, hot summer is finally beginning to draw to a close. Autumn isn't here, quite yet, tho we are expecting a few cooler days, thanks to a cold front that is driving it's way south from Canada. The temps here in Prescott, Arizona are supposed to drop into the seventies and the news out of Phoenix was touting cool days at only 90 degrees. It's supposed to be 92 in Denver, today and tomorrow, in the low to mid thirties, with snow possible. 2020, man.

Anyway, here is this week's Beauty Spotlight Team Labor Day Edition post. And, before you ask, no. The three police officers who murdered Breonna Taylor in her own home have still not been arrested and charged.

We love when cosmetic collections have powerful inspirations and meanings, and Jen over at Laugh, Love, Contour has one such collection on her blog this week! Doubledown Cosmetics has launched their Cape Verdean-flag inspired collection, The Ancestral Collection, Vol. 1. This collection focuses on the meanings behind the powerful red colour of the flag and the influences of revolutionary Amílcar Cabral who set the Republic of Cabo Verde on its path to independence.

Taking off on a Labor Day weekend getaway? Or doing a staycation at home? Never Say Die Beauty recommends Patchology Getaway Plan kit of fast-acting facial masks and eye gel patches for some me-time on-the-go or at home when time is at a premium.

Polish Pick Up/Indie Pick Up kicks off Sept 4th – 7th and Kristi from BeginNails reviewed 6 items. One of her favorites was a cuticle oil in the scent Fall Breakfast from Red Eyed Lacquer. As the weather cools down pumpkin pecan waffles with blueberry syrup sounds delicious!

5YINA Guiying Décolletage Treatment is an ultra-emollient and richly moisturizing balm, made with Chinese medicinal plants, that Lola's Secret Beauty Blog loves because it deeply nourishes the skin leaving it soft, smooth and luminous.

Stacie has some tips for taking care of dry skin over on her blog, The Makeup Obsessed Mom.

Get clean, get exfoliated and do it with great looking Artisan Soaps that you can see on Beauty Info Zone.

You may know Sigma does makeup brushes but did you also know they do makeup. Southeast by Midwest has a review and swatches of the Sigma Cor-de-Rosa Eyeshadow Palette you should check out.

Are you looking for a beautiful, affordable facial oil that smells as lovely as it will make your complexion look and feel? Check out Erika’s review of the Pixi Skintreats Rose Oil on Notes from My Dressing Table

The Once and Future Foreo Luna Review

Do I Still Love it Five Years On?

Five Years ago, much to my delight, I was sent an original Foreo Luna (link to original article, in case you're interested) for consideration and review. Here's the first pic I took of it - brightened to better fit my current #aesthetic yes, I am self mocking - fresh from my doorstep and still lovely and warm from sitting outside in the Arizona sun. Wow. That counter top, angle and lighting, taken on my prior-prior phone. What was I thinking????

The Once and Future Foreo Luna Review 3

Are you as blown away by the photo quality as I am? I knew that you would be. Admit it, you really want to be me.

Anyway, If you read my original review, you know that I fell instantly in love with my new skin care toy. The question I am answering in this article is, do I still use it and love it, five years on?

The Beauty Spotlight Team

Welcome to The Beauty Spotlight Team post. This is going up a little later than usual and for that I feel remorse but I'm trying to function. That is the only promise I can keep, right now. Her are the fab links from this week's Beauty Spotlight Team:

Derma E Jasmine & Vanilla Hydrating Shea Body Lotion is an absolutely delectable ultra-emollient, yet lightweight and fast absorbing moisturizer that smells heavenly. Lola's Secret Beauty Blog adores this lotion and if you love Jasmine, you will too!

Save or Spend | Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist or Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist - Which one Wins? 1

Face mists are one of my favorite skin care products and in my skin care fridge, milky, hydrating mists reign supreme. Two have risen to prominence, one is a savings sweetheart and the other is a boujie beauty. Both are splendid. Since I am a beauty on a budget, as much as I'd like to, I can't keep buying both so, I decided to put them to the test, head to head and choose the winner and that is the one that has earned it's place in my skin care arsenal. If you'd like to know which mist won, read on!

Known - the Alluring New Fragrance from A Girl's Gotta Spa!

Prelude to a Blog Post

They say that you should never work with children or animals but I disagree. I mean, what could be a better moment for a blogger than settling in to take a bunch of photographs of a product and have your cat jump up on your photo table, sit herself prettily down and start posing? I had so much fun firing off shot after shot of Daisy Adair and the gorgeous perfume that before I knew it, I had almost one hundred photographs. I decided that of course, I had to do this blog post in behind the scenes style and let Daisy be the model.

Daisy Adair and I would like to present to you the newest offering in a fragrance line that I have come to love. Please read on for all of the details. And, an astonishing number of cute cat pictures.

Fashion Flash - Mid June Edition

It's almost summer, the weather is heating up and so are the SARS-CoV-2 infection numbers, here in Arizona. Our governor caved to pressure, opened our state too far, too soon and add in Memorial Day weekend and nobody making even the least effort to wear their masks or social distance and we're running out of room in the ICUs. We were one of the states that seemed to have it's act together. That illusion has been blown out of the water.

So, on to happier things, it's time for Fashion Flash and I'm stepping in to host, this week. Let's get started, shall we?

The Beauty Spotlight Team for Mid June

Dude. It's the middle of June, already. Where is this year flying to, in such a hurry? In a way, I'm dismayed at the swift passage of time but in another, I'm marveling at everything happening so fast. So fast that I feel a little like an observer at a tennis match, head snapping back and forth, trying to keep my eyes on everything, take it all in and continue to learn and grow from what I'm seeing, hearing and experiencing. While the country is opening back up -too soon and too fast if rising case numbers are any indication- I remain in self imposed lockdown. I've gotten used to it, which is a good thing, since I'm in until we have herd immunity or a safe, effective vaccine against SARS-CoV-2. Let's see, what else... Oh, yeah. The Beauty Spotlight Team post for this week! I hope that you enjoy it.

Derma - E Skin De-Stress Calming CBD Skin Care

As you no doubt know, Derma-E is my favorite affordable skin care brand. Not only is this brand accessible and affordable, their products are efficacious and there are lines for all ages and skin types from oily, acne prone to combo, normal and dry/very dry. Derma-E is created in a certified wind powered facility, cruelty free, vegan, non-GMO, soy free and the packaging is recyclable. What more could a skin care fanatic want?

How about...

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol - the main psychoactive compound found in cannabis) free, broad spectrum CBD that can help calm and de-stress your skin while Derma-E's proven formulas pamper and hydrate your complexion? Interested? Yeah, I thought that you might be. Read on.

Fashion Flash for the Week Of 6/8

It's Fashion Flash time. I apologize for the lateness, I'm trying to learn this new, buggy and irritating Blogger platform that Google decided to spring on us. There are some big changes and some features are not working as they should and it's all a mess. I'm not what anyone would describe as "tech-y" so I'm struggling. I want to go back to the old editor but In July, it won't be available to us, any longer so I might as well just stay right here and tough it out.

Okay, enough with the crying and complaining! Let's get to the real reason why we are here. It's for Fashion Flash, the Weekly E-Newsletter for Forty Plus Readers. This week's edition is hosted by our own Allison at Never Say Die Beauty. Head on over and see what everyone has been up to, lately!

I'm hosting the next edition. If this new editor doesn't kill me, first. I hope that you'll stop by and check it out. Or, send a lovely arrangement to my widower, if Blogger finally does succeed in doing me in.

The Beauty Spotlight Team

Welcome to another Beauty Spotlight Team post! Okay, sorry this is late but this new Blogger platform is buggy as hell and it's a bear to get to know. I don't think that I like it, yet. It's not anywhere as easy and intuitive as it used to be and I'm not tech-y so change isn't easy for me!

Anyway, let's get into it, shall we?

The Beauty Spotlight Team - Goodbye May

May is finally moving out and June is... Tomorrow! This year is half over and as far as I'm concerned, it can't get done, soon enough. I hope that you are all staying safe, well and taking care of each other.

I hope that you enjoy this week's Beauty Spotlight Team post. Just hit the Read More button, below to continue. Have a great week and I'll see you all soon.

Fashion Flash for This First Week of May

The Beauty Spotlight Team - Hello May and I'm Ready to Burn My Laptop

Gentle reader, sorry that this is late. I won't go into a big, long hoop-de-do but to say that my laptop is frustrating me in it's inability to perform to even minimal requirements, at present. I can't even edit photographs, right now so new posts? Yeah. Right. See me when. But I do have this week's Beauty Spotlight Team post finally ready to go. This poor, stupid piece of shit computer is capable of that much, at least. So, let's get started.

Fashion Flash - Hello April!

Happy April and Happy Monday. It's my turn to host Fashion Flash and this week we have a great lineup of content for you to enjoy. I hope that you are all staying in and well. If you're an essential worker, take extra care and stay safe.

Fashion Flash - Staying Together By Staying Apart!

Happy Quarantine day... Sorry. I can't remember, anymore. Thanks to asthma, your's truly has been in self imposed lockdown since the first part of March and I've been keeping my distance from my husband and son, both of whom are essential in their own fields and are still working, full time. Good times. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do and this girl's gonna do it. One of my comforts, these days is my Internet connection and grateful I am that it's up and humming along and that I can stay informed, keep my mind busy and stay connected to family and friends. I'm also happy to have distractions like Fashion Flash - this week hosted by our lovely Mirabai at Moving Free. If you also crave a nice distraction, head over and check it out.

Stay inside. Stay well. If you're an essential worker, thank you for all that you are doing to help treat the ill, keep our communities safe, keep us fed, our lights and water on, packages landing on our doorsteps and our Internet up and running. Please know that we appreciate your efforts and the risks you take, every day.

The Beauty Spotlight Team - Goodbye March

A part of me feels weird about posting beauty content during a pandemic but another part of me feels certain that we all crave some normalcy, routine and fun, frivolous media that doesn't add to our already skyrocketing stress levels. A nice beauty blog roundup is just what the doctor ordered, if you ask me, so grab a nice, calming beverage, a yummy snack, kick back and enjoy The Beauty Spotlight Team Weekly Roundup. Until we see you next week gentle reader, stay home, stay well and if you are an essential worker, thank you for everything that you do to help keep us all healthy, fed, the lights on and our Internet humming and stay safe.

3 Easy Steps to a Firmer and More Youthful Complexion with the Murad Youth Renewal Trio 1

all hail Retinol!

If you've been hanging around here for any amount of time, you know that Retinol is one of my all time favorite skin care ingredients. I have used it for years and I've seen the benefits for myself, on my face, with my own eyes. I am always excited to try new to me skin care brands that contain that magic elixir so I was thrilled when a representative from Murad reached out to me and invited me to participate in their intro campaign for their Retinol Youth Renewal trio on Instagram. Since then, I've used these products pretty consistently and they are my new 3 Easy Steps to a Firmer and More Youthful Complexion!

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist is the Perfect Complexion Refresher this Spring

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist is the Perfect Complexion Refresher this Spring - Layers

One of the skin care delights of life for me is face mists. I really love face mists and if I'm honest, I low key hoard them. Face mists are an integral part of my skin care routine and I love them for setting and refreshing my makeup. The mist that we are talking about today is one that I resisted, for a long time, as I felt that it was all Instagram and YouTube It Girl hype and nothing particularly special or worthy of it's share of my limited and precious beauty budget. I'm happy to say that I was wrong. Yes, I finally caved to the siren song of sweet, watermelon-y foggy goodness and purchased myself a bottle. Now, I think that this might just be the perfect complexion refresher for spring and summer.
